It's kind of hard to get into the mood when the IRS sends you a notice that you owe them a ton of money that you don't have, you send them a response with proof that you don't owe it, and they merely knock off $300 and tell you "you're welcome". Not even a reach around. I've never been into the holidays since I was about 15 or so. This year is just really stressful.

I hear ya Brother Rob...the Bishop cannot bless the IRS ...

Last year the IRS sent me the same crappy mail that you probably have right now...and I didn't owe it (it was over $5000 :wow:)..so I sent them proof that I didn't owe it. They sent me back another mail stating 'blah blah blah blah'...so...we went around and around via snail mail and phone calls for about 6 months. Finally, they sent me a mail that read, "Listen Commie...pay up or you're FukenSchtucked :help:!!!"...but...I didn't pay up...instead, I sent them one more mail with all the same proofs that I had sent them before....and then I waited  About a month later I got one final mail from them which 'absolved' the Bishop for the supposed debt :innocent: and they dropped their case. I guess they finally realized they were wrong...but they sure did fight hard!

If you're in the right, give them phone calls and lots of replies to their mails. I think they're really after 'everyone' now that this country is in such a financial mess...both of my sisters are under audit right now too

Hang in there brother, and blessings to you!

you need more spiked egg nog.

Christmas lost it's luster for me when I really got to see the materialistic side of it. I guess when you are a kid, its just exciting and fun. But when you get older and are forced to deal with the melodrama of it all, it really becomes a hastle. Like friends from college getting upset at you because you didn't send out chirstmas cards, or a cousin pissed off because she spent $80 on my present and I paid half of that for hers. I just got so sick of it all and pulled back from it all years ago. But now, with my niece and nephew getting to really like christmas, and my wife loves the holidays, it's even harder. I feel more and more guilty about not enjoying it. I try, but I really can't hide my dislike, and that just upsets the wife. Add this to the fact that the IRS are trying to suck every penny out of my pay cheque, and the debt from buying a bunch of presents you can't really afford to buy, and I am really at my wits end. I really want to like christmas, but It's just so stressful.

Edit: Bishop, the tax that they say I owe, technically I do owe it. I cashed out a small 401K that I had with a job that I only had for a short time. It was only a $3K disbursement, and at the time I paid taxes on the disbursement. Aparently, I was supposed to pay some other tax on it. I got the notice and while going through my documents, I realized that I didn't include the deduction for my student loans that year, which would drop the tax I owed on the disbursement down to like $80. But the IRS only accepted a partial deduction and rather than drop it down to $80, only dropped it down to $1,000. :sigh:

I am not into holidays, but usually go along with the flow. But this year, with the whole BIL + Cow debacle, this week cannot be over soon enough. Plus, we're broke, Bren is in a lot of pain and I am overworked as hell.

Blessings to you SisterYeYe...you and Bren are good people and you bring a lot of happiness and laughs to the C4C...for that, I wish you a Merry Cow-Free Christmas! :star:

I like the holidays because I love seeing the boys all excited because of Santa & everything.

I have some sketchy family members who try to make Christmas a catastrophe every year but I don't let them get to me, they can't ruin it if I don't let them.

We're eating leftovers from last night... adobo de cerdo (pork) with rice. We ate all the fried yucca last night LOL

I think SisterSusitala has a real blessing/talent for making life simple and fun! :star:

I completely relate to pretty much all that. Peoples' expectations are not my responsibility though, so their disappointment is theirs and theirs only.

I bought wrist warmers for the family here. 80 bux total, and that's that. Hell, we're not even going to the xmas dinner anyway.

VERY Good Advice from HermanaLen, and in all actuality, it is the right approach.

Rob...I think we can all understand your disappointment with the materialistic side of the Season...'tiz true dat...because we've all felt that in one way or another. Find something deeper in the season, like enjoying it with your wife. That is what Christmas should really be about...on a simplistic level, and that is the most fulfilling way to enjoy the season.

So, SCRWE those udder folks who wantz too much from you...(including the IRS!)

Peace :innocent: , Bishop

Awwww...crud...Ya...I know exactly what you're saying about the 'school loan' deduction. I had a big deduction a many years ago for tuition, and was calculating in my mind that I'd be able to deduct XXXX off of my year end taxes. Yet, when I did my taxes, I found out there was a ceiling on the amount that you can deduct...so I was scourged before PontiusIRS...it was the svck.

Still, I really dig the fact that your wife enjoys the Season so much...try to find some joy in her joy...and take a little help from JackDaniels as required :star:

Thanks Bishop. I adore the redhead. If he gets cut, I bleed. And I will be damned if I let anyone like the Cow hurt him.

thanks Bishop. It's how I was raised. He is my number 1. Always and above everyone else. I do not bargain with that. Which is why this ####### with the inlaws is so hurtful -- they know that engaging with me on this issue will never result in their will. It will result in me deciding/doing whatever is best of Bren. Like I said to Rob; their expectations are their issue and their problem, not mine.

He was like "You shouldn't have done that....".

Needless to say, I freaked Eff out for the rest of the day.
