Also unlike other vaccines, Gardasil doesn't necessarily work on a population as a whole and should never have had a blanket enforcement for the age groups that it does. Maybe for the under 14 crowd but people in their 20's?

Also since there wasnt much testing done on the long term effects on gardasil, who's to say our healthcare would get drained by female immigrants suffering the effects of gardasil vaccines?

Yes, to the poster who felt the need to complain to "us women"... you're welcome to go get it for yourself.

The shot never properly met the criteria for required vaccines. It was not removed from the list, the criteria was clarified and it was deemed that the shot didn't, in fact, meet those guidelines (which it never did to begin with).

Before you moan about it, read the official publication that I previously linked.

The whole point behind it all is that there should've been a choice involved. That is all, and I'm happy to hear that it's finally recognized as such.

You are welcome to write a complaint to the CDC if you feel you have one. Obviously the thousands upon thousands of complaints they received in opposition to it were deemed valid enough to cause a change.

Anyways... back to Gardisil topic.

I am so happy for this good news!!!!!!!!!! Unfortunately, this good news doesn't affect me and i still have about 10% of bitter feelings about getting all 3 shots since i started my first shot in March 2009 and I am adjusting my status on mid December so i have to get all 3 shots for my medical. My last shot was today. What really disturbed me is my last visit to get my 3rd shot. All the canadian and american doctors I have met during my search to get gardisil were confused and puzzled with the necessity to get Gardisil as an Immigration requirement. Today, the doc said she didnt understand why the hell i needed it when not only because I am married and 26 years old... because the shot does very little for you once you have been sexually active and that is why they have been trying to get high school girls to get it and that is also why the vaccine is only free to females under the age of 19. I told my husband this and his response was "so you mean you have been throwing out $150-$170 for basically nothing??". On top of that I've had a colposcopy 6 years ago and the doc said this shot is unneccessary. She has never met anyone who needed Gardisil as one of the medical requirement. hhmmm. well anyways, this whole experience makes me a little jaded and this shot was just a way to get money from me .... but at the same time i just found out that some of my friend's of friends have HPV and are now prone to cervical cancer. some of them do regular testing and have to really watch their health. it balances the bitter and sweet feelings I have towards this whole experience................ but i am happy women's rights and choices are finally heard and respected.

Well, this is the first time I've ever had to moderate the Immigration News forum. lol. Congratulations. Two of you have had your posts removed for personal attacks and derogatory comments. I have returned one of the comments below, with the offensive quote from another member removed.

I find this vaccine uncalled for. I'm sure most men who are trying to bring someone over to the US DONT just go randomly having sex with anything that walks, they're responsible people and are loyal to their fiancee/wive. Same with the women, I'm sure most of us are very loyal to our fiance/husband and choose to only have sex with them.

If we so desire to get this vaccine, we should. But something like this that hasnt been on the market for too long and we had no choice but to get it? Not to mention, only women have to get it? Now that's wrong. That seems to be the point about us rejoicing about this vaccine getting taken off.

Here is a news release from USCIS explaining how they will handle the Gardasil vaccination issue until December 14th - a small delay but good news all around:

http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/men...00045f3d6a1RCRD

USCIS Update: USCIS to Hold Certain Cases Pending Changes to Vaccination Requirements

CDC Removes HPV and Herpes Zoster from List of Required Vaccines for Immigration Purposes

WASHINGTON—U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has, since Nov. 13, 2009, temporarily held certain applications to adjust status to lawful permanent residence until new CDC vaccination criteria become effective on Dec. 14, 2009.

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced on Nov. 13, 2009 new criteria for determining which vaccinations will be required for applicants seeking to become lawful permanent residents. Based on these new criteria, and beginning on Dec. 14, 2009, the vaccines for herpes zoster (zoster) and human papillomavirus (HPV) will no longer be required for immigration purposes.

As a result, since Nov. 13, 2009, USCIS has held any application that would have been denied solely based on the applicant’s failure to show proof of having received the HPV or zoster vaccine. USCIS will resume adjudicating these applications on Dec. 14, 2009, using the new vaccination criteria, which eliminate the need for the HPV and zoster vaccines.

More information on the new criteria and changes to the vaccination requirements is available on CDC’s website at CDC Information on Vaccination Requirements.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Hmm so in theory for the poster above they'll hold her visa until the 14th...except that we all know the consulates are an entirely different monkey so to speak and may still do whatever they like.

That sounds to me as if it would have more bearing on AOS applications. Nothing there seems to pertain to petitions at the consulate level.
