How many I-864s do I need?

Hi. I thought I understood this, but now I'm questioning myself.

Part 3 of the step by step instructions says:

IF THE ... CHILDREN WILL BE TRAVELING WITH THE IMMIGRANT.... YOU SHOULD LIST THE NAMES... on the form, and only fill out the one.

But then on the actual form, it says:

I AM SPONSORING THE FOLLOWING FAMILY MEMBERS IMMIGRATING AT THE SAME TIME.... DO NOT INCLUDE ANY RELATIVE LISTED ON A SEPARATE VISA PETITION.

I filled out three I-130's, one for my husband and one for each of the children. So they have their own visa petitions. So do I fill out 3 864s? And does my co-sponsor fill out 3 as well?

i view it like this:

each I-130 petition has seperate case number.

so submit seperate I-864 for each case.

Thanks Darnell, I sort of figured that was the way it was going to be, but with the conflicting instructions, I wanted to make sure. And of course I was HOPING it would be the easy way (one form). Now I've got to explain to my parents how they have to fill out three as co-sponsors.

An I-864 is completed by an individual. So only one parent would complete the I-864. If they are combining incomes then one would complete the I-864 and the other would complete an I-864A.

If only one parent's income is needed to meet the income requirement then they use only their income information even if they file a joint tax return. They would use the joint return, but only complete the form with their indicidual income information.

Only one parent fills it out, but if it does need to be filled out for each family member, I'll have to do three. And I don't have enough income, so my parents are co-sponsoring. The I-864A is between the sponsor and household member, which my parents are not.

I'm not quite sure what you are saying.

Here is what I am saying: if the income is from both parents (assuming that they live in the same household) is needed in order to qualify then parent 1 completes an I-864 and parent 2 completes an I-864A.

Oh, I'm sorry. I misunderstood. I thought you were talking about my husband and I as the parents, not my parents. I *think* my dad's income will cover it, but I'll give them the information on the I-864A as well.
