Hi. I sent my I-129f packet in to the VSC on Nov3. I sent it certified mail, but with out return receipt. I sent it usps and according to there tracking, it was delivered on Nov6. It is now Nov14 and I haven't received any confirmation from VSC, or have had my check cashed. I know that the VSC was down for holiday on the 11th, but I've been watching others who have similar time lines to me and some have already received NOA-1.

I know I am probably just being inpatient/paranoid, but has anyone ever had their packet lost by the VSC?

You are being impatient and/or paranoid. They will cash the check OR return your package within 2 weeks and the NOA1 will come within 30 days, probably less. If they return it, it is because you forgot to sign something, otherwise you will see the check cashed within 2 weeks.

Ok so it's 14 days since I sent in my packet. Can someone who didn't receive their noa-1 in less then a week comment on why this might be taking so long?

I remember feeling that way! Look at it this way. This is America, no one in the government really works on weekends....at least the majority that can get away with it don't and USCIS is in that majority. Your petition was received on Friday Nov 6 - most likely in the afternoon. Then Sat & Sun sat untouched in an empty office. They probably opened it on Monday Nov 9. It has been 7 business days since then. If you haven't heard something by this Friday, you should call them just to check on things. Some people never get their NOA-1. It happens. Just be forewarned, it's a long long process and your next step is likely to leave you thinking like this for several months. Whenever you feel this way, take a deep breath and just relax, then call them to calm your fears. But be prepared, by the time they have anything to tell you, your petition will be long gone from their offices. It's annoying...but what can you do? So save the stress, no one needs grey hair early.

January 2009 - K-1 Denied by the consulate

January 2011 - Moved to India - Yikes!

October 2011 - DCF filing rejected by overzealous employee at the embassy

December 2011 - Tourist visa denied (not surprising)

March 2012 - CR1/IR1 process started

May 1, 2012 - RFE and some of our information was entered into the computer wrong by the CSC

Thank you for your comforting words. This really has been stressful. Good news though. I checked my bank account this morning and 455.00 usd were gone. :D Now the real waiting begins, but at least I know my packet is not lost.

For any one filing after me, a word of advice, get the signature return receipt.

Even if you had signature receipt.... how would this situation be any different? What added level of delivery assurance does sig receipt provide?

If a package is truly lost, does a signature magically make it reappear? or make the process go any faster?

By your own admission your package was delivered and the check has cleared... the stress you felt was self inflicted and would not have been any different with signature receipt... but yet now you recommend it....

Me. It took me nearly a month to receive it. What? But my timeline doesn't say that!!! Of course not. Because the NOA1 DATE is the date they received it and that is the date we backfill in the timeline no matter when the completely useless piece of paper arrives in your mailbox

The NOA1 is a useless document, you do not need it at all. It has no purpose in the process and does not determine when they start to process your case. You are worried about absolutely nothkng which will not serve you well in this months long process with NO communication. Did they cash your check? If they did, you know they have it and you know it is being processed. What exactly do you think the NOA1 will tell you? It will tell you "We have your case and it is being processed"

Signature return receipt delays the process as they have to send someone to pick up the mail and sign for it. Return signature receipt serves absolutely NO value whatsoever (not even imaginary) in this case. Delivery confirmation is all you need, all you ever needed. Your stress was entirely imaginary and based on unrealistic expectations based on an ignorance of how people fill in their timelines (it is always in arrears, it has to be, which means it was several days or weeks AFTER the date listed that people actually knew what date to enter in their timeline)

You are a young man, obviously. You are used to tracking numbers, text mesages, emails...even phone calls are too slow for you. Get over it. This is USCIS. They do not communicate. They don't want to. They don't have to. You have no option. Now, you will sit quietly with no word for months probably. No one you call will give you petinent information. The online update system is not accurate. When your petition approval arrives in your mailbox, you will know you reached the next step.

Relax

Thanks to all for the sobering comments. I really appreciate those of you who took the time to comment. I some how thought that the return receipt would give some comfort that the package had indeed been received. I certainly have some lessons to learn in patience. Thanks again.
