Nigeria may be the most difficult consulate in the world, thoug a few others could give them a challenge for the title. Read the guides and forums is the best I can say. Read the consulate reviews for Lagos, check the timelines etc.

Nigeria is a terribly difficult country to go through. They are considered high fraud so they make you work for your visa. Even with all that bad apples still slip through. One case just surfaced. If you have any of the "red flags" you are going to have a harder time . Red flags include Female older than the man, different races, different religions, only one trip, meeting through relatives, no pictures with family. There are more those are the ones that frequently come up in Nigeria.

good luck

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

The first thing to do is dish the lawyer, you can do this on your own. He/she is going to file the same paperwork as you can.

Nigeria is a consulate where you better know your stuff and be prepared. Of course you can do it yourself, but if you are not prepared to study the process, learn the information necessary to pass an interivew in Lagos, then you had better pay someone who can. I am NOT saying a lawyer is the proper person to do this, I sincerely doubt the lawyer knows much more about Lagos than it is a difficult consulate. Saying that and filling out your forms will do you NO GOOD at an interview in Lagos. The consulate is considered in a class by itself for visa fraud.

This is a good site to discuss and read about this with people that have been through Lagos and have been successful.

Welcome! Even though you are using a lawyer it will still be in your best interest to familiarize yourself with the process. In dealing with USCIS, DOS knowledge is power. There are great guides, reviews, forums, etc...

Best of luck in your journey! Wishing you smooth sailing.

Hi welcome!

Yes Nigeria is 1 of the most difficult embassies due to scams. But as long as your relationship is real, and you have your docs to prove that your relationship is real, then you have nothing to worry about.

THanks, Thank God we dont have any of those red flags been there twice this year already and going this december for our traditional engagement hope that helps too.

A lawyer will slow your process down. They do not give the same dillegence and attention you coudl give your petition. There are amazingly knowledgable people on this site.

I haa lawyer that cost us 6 months time. He was fired and I got back half my money. I learned more then he knew at this site.

Best of luck.
