I-485 and Employment Card: Interviews and Social Security Numbers

Hi Everyone,

I've got my interview for my adjustment of status in a month and have already received my Employment Authorization Card from Homeland Security. I had a few questions

1. After the interview, how long until my status is adjusted? Thirty days?

2. Does having the Employment Authorization Card allow me to work in the US, or must I first get a Social Security number?

1. After the interview, how long until my status is adjusted? Thirty days?

Could be right away or within a few days, or a week or so - sometimes longer.

2. Does having the Employment Authorization Card allow me to work in the US, or must I first get a Social Security number?

EAD is proof to an employer that you are legally permitted to work in the US - not many employers will hire a person with no SS#/Card though so count on getting one if you intend to work.

1) When approved your status is adjusted.... this could happen immediately at the interview or later if they need time

2) SSN will be needed to work in addition to EAD
