Ukraine travel info

Ukraine has experienced a severe ourbreak of swine flu. Schools have been closed for the next three weeks. Trains have stopped running in West Ukraine (west of Kiev) due to the outbreak. There is no vaccine available, and precautionary items, such as face masks are sold out.

School closures due to flu are prtty much a normal thing in Ukraine in the "flu season" usually later inthe year, but the halting of train service is an unusual measure.

So anyone planning a trip there soon, be aware

Right now everything is closed, inlcuding colleges, universities and all public places. On Monday it's gonna be closed more places. There not enough masks for everybody, no vaccinas. The western part of Ukraine is very dangerous for now. I won't be surprised if all embassies are closed in Ukraine too. Getting ready to everything, it's Ukraine.

Vika is coming back in a week. She says that the virus is being called the California flu, and Krushatik street is almost empty in Kiev at night. I am hoping she will be able to get to the airport and home.

Well today is Alla's birthday HAPPY BIRTHDAY SWEETHEART! And so all our friends are calling with the news. They say 10-12 people per day are dying in west Ukraine, seems like east Ukraine (where orur friends and family are) so far is spared but they are closing all schools as a precaution.

it is strongly suggested anyone going there be vaccinated first. If you have never been to hopitals there, I suggest...DON'T get sick. If you do, bring your own food, bandages, cleaning solutions, etc. and do not let the staff steal them to sell to other patients!

But as an aside, a friend of ours went to Turkey once, got sick and ended up in a Turkish hospital, came back to Ukraine and told us she felt like she needed vaccinations after being in a Turkish hospital! I guess everything is relative.

Well, Yanukovich and Timoshenko!!! Right now she does want to be a president this time. She needs to be a hero among people again And I read many articles about this flu and many people says that it's just piar for lady "U" because of future vote. Many people have flu in Ukraine, but amost of people have common flu, not "California" or H1A1. Why California?!?!? Before it was called "SWINE FLU".

I miss KVAS very much, but Soviet Kvas, not like they make nowadays. It's diffrent. But still you can buy it from this yellow container. It's called "nostalgia"

About vaccinations, I am not sure that all people will go to hispitals and take vaccinations because there were some cases with fatal outcome. They will be very careful with this decision, they stopped trusting our medical stuff. Like you said DON"T GET SICK, but there is another question, where is money which was given or sent to Ukraine in April this year when the first wave of flu reached Europe?!?!?? This money was for vaccinas, for lap equipments and etc. Right now people can't find simple masks in the pharmacy because gorvernment doesn't have money even for this cheap masks. That amount was spent for nothing.
