We finally got our initial interview....after filing in march, things are finally catching on, however it says that if my husband doesnt speak fluent english, that an interpreter should also be present at the interview. For those of you who have been to the interview, and have a husband/wife that is not fluent in english, did you translate for them? Was there any problems? Any recommendations? b/c wherever alfredo and i go, i always translate for him if he has problems understanding b/c i am fluent in spanish, but i also do not want the interviewing officer to thing that we are cheating, like 'what is her middle name'....gibber in spanish......alfredo responds.....officer gets suspicious, you know? b/c they might not understand that i am just translating and not giving him the answer. Thanks ahead of time. -Kristina

In a joint interview situation... the spouse CANNOT be used as an interpreter... primarily for the reasons you indicate

So we have to have someone else interpret, which is understandable, but not reasonable at all. Thanks, anybody else have any input?

ok, i read it, thanks, it says....that i can have a family member or friend who is fluent in both english and spanish present. so pretty much just get a friend or relative, like my grandmother to do it. cause it doesnt say anything about having like qualifactions on paperwork showing that you can translate, so i guess my grandmother could do it, right?

Yes, if your grandmother is fluent in English and I am assuming Spanish then she should be able to act as an interpretor for you. Good luck at the interview.
