According to the instructions for the I-485 it is required. Failing to submit it would get you an RFE and the processing would stop until the required document is submitted.

you can request that USCIS send you another NOA2 but it would cost money to replace the lost letter.

Your I-129f was approved in 5 days from your NOA1 date.

Your interview took 67 days from your I-129F NOA1 date.

AOS was approved in 2 months and 8 days without interview.

ROC was approved in 3 months and 2 days without interview.

Guys, we lost the I-129F petition approval notice letter. Is this mandatory? It doesn't make sense to ask for that letter when you have I-94 and the K1 Visa.

Yes it is required. It makes perfect sense. USCIS which will do the AOS needs to verify the same person has arrived that was petitioned. The AOS you file for is available only to one person for one reason. The US citizen filed the petition, it is the foreign benficiary that files the AOS, they need to prove they are "that" person. I suggest you keep every document you ever receive in this process in a safe place. Getting a copy of the I-129f from USCIS costs some serious dollars.

Aight I think we are just gonna send in the print out from USCIS case status website. It shows I-129 notice on the website which is the same as the letter we got in mail along with case number.

Yeah, good luck. The printout doesn't show the name of the beneficiary. Why couldn't anyone use that?

All you have to do is scan the big things like noa2 and email them to yourself. The replacement costs something like $340 right? While I think uscis should charge for a replacement, that is an insane price...

They charge that price because they don't want people too loose it....

I understand they don't want people to lose it and I never did. Having said that, there are times when I could see someone losing it... like moving from one state to another, you would have more important things on your mind than an old letter from uscis (even though it is very important). I think $100- $150 would be alright. They would just have to hire a few clerks to sit there at $10 an hour or so and print files from a database at about $150 a page..... not a bad profit if you ask me.
