Will I need to take a road test to get an Illinois Driver's License or just the written? I'm Canadian.

Most likely road test. Illinois will accept your license temporarily (usually 60-90 days) but most do not accept foreign licenses reciprocally. Check with the Ilinios Secretary of State office or their website. They will also have residency requirements you need to meet. Some states allow you a license with the filing of the AOS others make you wait until you have a green card or EAD.

In Illinois you will need to take both the driving & written test. You are only allowed 30 days to drive on your Canadian drivers license.

My husband went for his drivers license as soon as he got a SS card, they did not give him an expiration date of 90 days, but whatever the standard is (couple yrs).

We are in IL and my husband is Canadian. He only had to do the written test and he even has a CDL.

Thanks Tracy! THat's what I thought! I know many states see Canadian DL's as "out of state" licenses.
