May I suggest swing trading stocks to keep you busy until classes start in January? It is really fun and super easy to learn. And it gives you an excuse to be around the computer all day.

I started a practice (fake) account in March. My brother wanted to challenge me. We both started with $100,000. I am kicking his #######! He turned $100,000 into $117,000 and I have turned $100,000 into $1,082,000 as of today close.

I really don't make too many trades there but I am very active in my own 'real' account. Since the March lows I have increased my account by about the same amount as the fake account; except I didn't have 100k in March; I had about 3k.

Not trying to boast about my gains but I just absolutely love trading and think it is a very real career or even something that can be accomplished part-time. I also have a website I have been working on a little bit where 'professional' or people that think they are professional traders can charge a monthly fee to newer traders. The 'professional' traders then send out their stock picks through my website which relays their stock picks to their subscribers in the form of a text message sent directly to their cell phone.

...Didn't mean to make this message so long. Just giving you an idea to do something on the side that could keep you busy and put some good money in your pocket. Congrats on the career change. My cousin is halfway through nursing school.

Best of luck with the career change!

Healthcare is definately one of the better areas to be working in (I wound up making the change myself due to the Oil Sector going south and having great difficult finding any Engineering jobs).

Although I work in Healthcare Security, I am friends with a large number of RN's - many of whom have only been working for a couple of years or so after making the change from a variety of previous careers (Radio DJ, Engineering etc).

It's something I've been toying with lately too - although as I can't afford to go back to school for that long, I'd probably more likely go for Paramedic Training or similar through a local Volunteer Fire Department.

I'll chat to a couple of the RN's tonight at work and shooting you a PM if they have any particular suggestions or advice!

Are you serious? There are other engineering jobs out there. The popular ones are the electrical and computer engineering. But, you can apply many engineering skills to biotechnology engineering. For example, building systems that requires mechanics. On the other hand, the electrical engineering jobs requires an FE exam for entry level and PE for Senior positions. I suppose if you pass the Electrical Engineer FE Exam you can work. They start at an average of 70k or higher for entry level. Depending on where you live. Although, you must graduate from an acredited university in Engineering to even take that FE test.

Hmm...I don't know what branch of engineering that manufacturing engineers belong to. The ones here in Massachusetts only have Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, Computer, and Software Engineering. BioMedical and BioTechnology Engineering is only in Grad School.

Although with mechanical engineers, it may branch to manufacturing engineers. For example, a Civil or Mechanical Engineer may also branch out to Structural Engineering. But, Structural Engineering don't really require a four year degree. Don't know.

Well, whatever you do...to make your degree worth something make sure it's accredited.
