My fiance screwed up and admitted at the medical that she used marijuana one time. Now they want her to see a physchiatrist. But is it going to matter, or is that one time use 4 years ago going to get her banned anyway?

Sorry but you guy are in deep dakine. Not much you can do but pray a LOT.

K1 denied, K3/K4, CR-1/CR-2, AOS, ROC, Adoption, US citizenship and dual citizenship

Yikes - that's not good. I don't think they care they care if it's once a day or once a in a lifetime - it's admitted drug use.

Good luck!

Sad to note ,it does matter Theyll be tracing back what caused the drug use, duration, and the patients perception. Theyll prove that potential drug use is out of her system or otherwise(the law of hypothesis)it would be best if u be the first to ascertain that she had overcome drug use. Bring her back at those days ,retrogress, open up the issue, synthesize then resolve it. Be her psychiatrist. Ill be honest with u, cottonball stories and issues of her life may arise but u have to understand . She has to prove that shed fully recovered.Be strong and supportive. Coupled with prayers and ur presence, she can make it!

Whaaaat! She smoked a little POT! She isn't some gutter dwelling coke addict. Three quarters of people on this site have smoked weed - probably a lot more than one time. Geez...

I can't believe that they make that big a deal out of someone who admitted to smoking pot 4 years ago. They could simply give her a drug test and see that she is negative and be done with it. I guess that this case definately proves, atleast in the Philippines, when asked if you ever experimented with drugs no matter how many years it has been it is best to Lie! How sad. Good luck to you guys.

That's skirting this site's TOS....

Last I check marijuana is still an illegal substance in the US, and since this is a medical exam that is geared to check a beneficiary's 'fitness,' admiting to its use, regardless of when it was, is tantamount to adminting you've done an illegal thing. That can affect your eligibility for the visa. I agree that a one time use (a long time ago) makes no difference today, and I don't think it should be taken into effect...but because pot is illegal in the US (at least for recreational use) I can understand how this question is on the medical exam.

I've seen people in the UK forum that have been denied on the basis of drug use (even for pot years ago) and they needed to apply for a waiver to get their K1 visa. However, it might happen that the psychiatrist deems her clean and nothing will come of it. Be prepared for a fight.

Good luck.

How can you be so sure that 75% of people here have smoked weed?

I have never even tried a cigarette, let alone weed. I know that it is judgmental, but if it were me and I knew that my fiancee smoked weed, the consulate wouldn't have to worry, because I would not support her anymore. She would have to find somebody else to marry.

Sorry, but I understand why it is important for immigration purposes. Therefore, pray to God that he gets a lenient consular officer at interview time.

I've never smoked weed or a cigarette either, but I'm not going to judge people that have.

And the reason people say it's not important for immigration services is because they don't take into account the amount smoked; most people experiment in their teens, so of course it's silly that an adult that has done that should be denied a visa in exactly the same way that a regular user is.

You're right. I knew that this would come up and I apologize. It just seems so ridiculous to me what they punish someone for telling the truth.

Yes but you don't admit to it at the interview.....That is only common sense. Yes maybe we all experimented but you have to understand the nature of things in our present day world.

Back in my day, if you got stopped by the police in the park for drinking beer, the police just took the beer (probably for themselves) and said don't let us catch you boys here again.

Nowadays, you're in jail and rehab and all that. Times have changed.

If you are a drug addict, then admit that. If not, then don't say anything about a past one time event.

She is not being punished for telling the truth, she is being punished FOR the truth. Yes it makes a difference, yes it can result in denial and a bar from future visas.

And no I did not experiment with the wacky tabbacky, I was do busy shootin', fishin' and chasin' skirts for that stuff (and the skirts used up all my disposable income anyway)
