Thank you very much for the quick response .

There is no number that starts with A

What is a NOA2 ?

There is a 8 digit number in red in the lower right part of her visa , must be it ?

It also ask for non immigrant number , geez , why don't they label these

I do appreciate your help

NOA2 is what we refer to as the petition approval notice from the USCIS

When you say, legally changed the name - what do you mean? Change name on SSN, or DMV or passport or some other document? Marriage certificate and license has my maiden name, though I want to change my last name. Please help.

I am in the same situation as yours, so maybe this helps - check this link for FAQs for K1 AOS- - http://www.visajourney.com/faq/k1k2visa-aos.html

:)

Acc to the faq, the red number you mention is the Non Immigrant Visa # which you will be asked for in Form i485 in Page 2.

A# is alien number I think, pros and experts please correct me if I am wrong. I have A# on my visa stamp, you should have it too - it corresponds to the Beneficiary A# on NOA.

Hope this helps.

I am sorry but I am having a hard time believing this - can anyone else please confirm this - - I was under the impression that once married, you update your SSN and DMV and ofcourse use the new name on the AOS form as that will be the name on Greencard - - should I go elsewhere to see what the state laws are regarding the name change? Also, is there a particular order I should do things - at least the dmv said, they need SSN - I am planning to do both SSN and AOS filing together just to be promt..Oh Jeez... please help... Chibby, are you around???

In your state that might be exactly what the name change laws are (update SSN & DMV)... If you are in MN it is not... that is why it is important to understand the individual state requirements

Thank you - - http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/3...h_carolina.html (thankfully, its just the SSN to begin with!) - my followup question - should I wait for the name to update in social records before I mail out my AOS forms or can I just use the new married lastname??

THe marriage certificate and license have your maiden name because most states do not add your married name to their records...They show who married who not who married who and changed their name, some women do not change their name or add hyphens etc. This can be done at the dmv and with SSA once you get the EAD or GC...

Just send in the AOS papers in your married name and go about changing the other things after that. This way your GC and other documents from DHS will reflect your married name.

From what I have read its next to impossible to get a drivers license or state id before you get EAD or GC to reflect your married name and be valid past the date on your I-94 but this may not be the case with ALL states just MOST of them (incl my state of Indiana), they say you are out of status at I-94 expiration so they make the dl and id expire then also.

You don't need to wait for the SSA to update to your married name that is why you send certified copy of marriage record to DHS when you file AOS.
