Good day everyone! I am probably one of the newest member here in VJ  I am glad to find this website!!

Anyway, through VJ, I found out about the USCIS Status Search (where you log in and check for status of the application) a few days ago) I just registered online and here is what it said for our case:

Receipt Number WAC xxxx xxxxxx

Last Updated 08/27/2009 (this was dated June 6, 2009 the other night)

Application Type: I129F, PETITION FOR FIANCE(E)

Current Status: Case received and pending.

On May 28, 2009, we received this I129F PETITION FOR FIANCE(E), and mailed you a notice describing how we will process your case. Please follow any instructions on this notice. We will notify you by mail when we make a decision or if we need something from you. If you move while this case is pending, call customer service. We process cases in the order we receive them. You can use our processing dates to estimate when yours will be done. This case is at our CALIFORNIA SERVICE CENTER location.

When I checked it the other night, the LAST UPDATE was dated June 6, 2009. But when I logged in today, the LAST UPDATED date changed to AUGUST 27, 2009.

My fiance called the Immigration call center on August 26, 2009, and I am wondering if that's why it changed dates.

Does the "Last Updated" date impact anything at all with the waiting time we have for the NOA2? I mean, does it mean that they are already on our case and it is actually processing?

Thanks for the help guys, much appreciated.

And good luck to all of us! This site rocks! :luv:

Yes it does the latest update could be your NOA2. When I got an update an email followed telling me they wanted additional evidence, but in most cases it has been an NOA2.

OMG! wow, thanks for the really quick reply. How's the status of your application, if you dont mind me asking? I hope they don't look for further evidence, as we have supplied a lot last time. I will look forward to receiving the NOA2. So I take it that I will get our NOA2 the next few days? i dont want to get my hopes up yet lol. but this is really good to know. thanks bunch :D

I just got an email stating the RFE , but I will not know what they are looking for until they send me the hard copy which lists the details. I am quite shocked that I got one because I think I nailed every thing they were looking for. So, from what I am seeing an RFE is not that bad you usually get approved within 2 weeks or so. If you have not recieved the email yet, I am sure you will be getting the hardcopy of your approval shortly. Just hang in there I am quite certain it was your approval. My status changed on Aug 27th as well, and than I got my RFE update.

thanks. i wonder if we will get an RFE . i suppose if they do, we have some more to supply them.. the first time he visited me was November 2008 and he came back just a couple of weeks ago cause we freaking miss each other so much LOL! (and now i mis him again, he went back to US Aug23 after 10days of stay here) cant wait to talk to my fiance again to tell him about this. he is getting upset over the fact that no one on the call center thing can give us any answer on what's up with the paperworks! had i not been researching online, we will still be in the dark on whats going on.

First, you should fill out your timeline. It helps people answer questions if they know specifics about your case, such as when and where you filed.

If the last updated date changes but the status of the case does not it's called a "touch". What it means is that, for whatever reason, someone at the USCIS service center handled your case folder. When they do this, they scan it with a bar code reader, which triggers the date change. The reason could be as simple as they are resorting boxes in the storage room. It could also mean an adjudicator has pulled your case folder to begin working on it soon. Unless and until you see a status change and/or receive an email, you won't know for sure why your case folder was touched.

If you filed at the California Service Center in May then there's a pretty good chance your case was touched because it's being worked on now. My case was touched Friday morning, but I didn't see the change in the date on the USCIS website until Monday morning. Monday afternoon I got an email that my approval notice had been sent on Friday, and shortly after that I saw the status change on the USCIS website. Since it took a couple of days for the website to be updated and receive the email, I suspect the computer that tracks cases internally at USCIS is not connected to the computer that displays status online (a good idea, from a security standpoint), and that there is some poor data entry clerk who has to update that online database every day.

Many people also report that their cases have been updated with no corresponding change in the online status. One frequent poster on this site likes to remind us that his case still shows "pending" on the USCIS website, even though his visa was approved, his fiance has come to the US and they have married, and her son has followed to join, and all of this happened many months ago. This means you shouldn't hold your breath waiting for things to happen with the online status. You could receive a notice in the mail without seeing any changes in the online status. Since you did see a touch, I think there's a pretty good chance you'll see a status change soon.
