Wondering about the vacinations records. One place says I dont need them for my k-1 visa medical exam another place says I do need them. Im 38 yrs old and do not have a copy of my vacinations and as I know it a Doctors office can destroy your records in 7 yrs. How will it be possible for me to get a copy of my vacinations?

I don't know at what point in the K1 process you need them, but you will.

If there is no way for you to get the records (I don't know where you live but in some provinces the province actually holds a record) - then you may want to take a titer test, rather than have them all again.

I'm not to sure how it works in British Columbia, but here in Ontario the health department keeps a record of your vaccinations records. I just called the hotline and requested access and they mailed me their records.

I had a similar issue, my doctor didn't have any records of me before 1994. It really annoys me they can just get rid of information like that.

Some people will tell you that for a K1 you do not need your vaccinations until you file AOS, which is technically true but the consulates in Canada will not pass you without your vaccinations complete, so you will need a copy. If you can't get ahold of the documents on stuff you have already had you can get a titer test done to show what you have immunities to.

Thanks for the info. When should I get the titer test done? Just before my medical exam? And show them the results at the exam? I will be applying for my K-1 visa next mth but I just want to start getting everything together now.

Thanks!

you can get it now if you'd like, it doesnt expire and I think it takes a few weeks to come back, but any time prior to your medical will be good (make sure you get it done early enough though for the results to come back, don't want to have to wait on them due to the lab)

Contact the hospital/doctor's office where you got your vacs for copies of it; if they cant find it then you should arrange to do them again.

Is it safe to have them done again? Is the titer good enough to say Im immunized?

Danu is correct. Canada requires them to issue a visa.

I never had a record of vaccinations, either, so I took a copy of the Immunization Requirements to my GP. He wrote what he thought I would have had, and the dates, on his prescription pad, then gave me a couple of booster shots and added them too. I took this with me to the medical and they accepted it. There are people from various provinces who just contacted their Department of Health and they were able to obtain a copy. (I couldn't do that because I received all my vaccinations in another country.)

The titre test is used to tell you what you've been immunized for already. You would then have boosters or new vaccinations that you require. I was someone who left this too late, and then I opted out of getting a titre test done and instead had the MMR vaccination redone, even though I was sure I had it done as a child. Yes, it is safe to have them done again if you need them, however it's more costly! Having the titre test is the way to go since you're so early in the process.

I had tires done today. When I called my childhood doctor they told me because I haven't been there in years(we changed dr's), they destroyed all my vaccination records.

I called dr Seiden's office today & they told me to get titres done to show immunity if I've already had the vaccines as a child.

So instead of getting vaccines again, I'm going the titre route.

I didn't have a copy of my immunization record. I emailed the Public Health Unit for my county (Guelph-Wellington, Ontario) and a lady there emailed me a copy the very next day! I grew up in a different county (Kitchener-Waterloo) and lived there until I was 12 but they must have transferred the records over when I started school there.

Good luck!
