hope this will be a start that we will be conscious enough to the foods that we're eating..

Unfortunately study shows that... :(

The amount of ill-informed people out in the world on GM Foods makes them ignorant to GM Foods.

GM Foods had been in process since people were able to harvest barley, fruits, etc...

Please, attend some schooling on Chemistry, and Biology which a great majority who are against GM Foods also lacks this great knowledge.

What's the difference between beta and alpha glucose, organic and inorganic, isomers of molecules, genes, chromosomes, mitochondria DNA, carbon chains or rings, etc...? Those who are against GM Foods has not idea of why biochemistry behaves.

Thanks for the links. Good info.

There is always scaremongering about GM foods. I haven't done any research (and by "research" I always mean reading the on the interwebz) but I have been very aware since moving here that fresh veggies and fruit turn bad much quicker than they did back home in the UK, now that could always be down the differences in temp I guess...I should look it up.

I need coffee first though....it's way too early for my science hat

Wow you're pretty smart. You have an agriculture degree?

You're confusing hybrids with GMOs.

Hybrids -

Plant breeders cross breed compatible types of plants in an effort to create a plant with the best features of both parents. These are called hybrids and many of our modern plants are the results of these crosses.

While plants can cross-pollinate in nature and hybrids repeatedly selected and grown may eventually stabilize, many hybrid seeds are relatively new crosses and seed from these hybrids will not produce plants with identical qualities.

......

GMOs -

can be any plant, animal or microorganism which have been genetically altered using molecular genetics techniques such as gene cloning and protein engineering. Plants like corn that has the pesticide Bt engineered into its genetic makeup to make it resistant to certain pests are GMO crops. Bt is a natural pesticide, but it would never naturally find its way into corn seed.

It's not safe to eat anything anymore, so I just quit eating. I want to be safe. Also glad they have airport security and cops running around all over the place, that really makes me feel safe as does having both seat belts and airbags in my car. I make sure to wear eye protection when using a 1.5 V battery operated screwdriver because the instructions tell me to do that, even though it doesn't have enough power to drive a short #2 screw in a piece of balsa wood. I wear medical approved latex gloves when handling extension cords, because the insulation contains chemicals that can cause cancer in rats in California. I wear heavy leather gloves when handling a cup of Macs coffee, also when I remove something from the micro or the oven because that also can be hot. I didn't know that.

I do have to find a kid to open all of these child proof lids, my hands are too big to handle that, I sit a hundred feet back from my monitor to lessen the danger of X-ray radiation. Also hold my cell phone a hundred feet away from my ear. Also replaced all my convention AC outlets with GFI, even though practically any appliance also has a GFI breaker on the plug, you can't be too safe.

Can't believe there is not a warning on my steering wheel not to drive cross handed, as many people have been killed by their own fist with a minor fender bender. Always wear a safety harness when standing on a one foot high stool, is a warning on that too.

We have got to be safe.

Those protein that scientists extracted came from other animals that human have eat for the longest times. The anti-freeze gene for example in fish. They took that gene sequence, and stitch it on plant DNA.

What the GM food has are genes that people have eaten for the longest times.

Hybrids are technically genetically modified organisms as well. It was a precursor to genetic engineering. In fact, the first plant to be truly GM modified was the tomatoe. People have been consuming that thing for the longest time. No problems. "Attack of the Killer Tomotoe" was the movie that brought fear to the people who ate the GM tomatoes.

I know they added a fish gene to tomatoes.

I don't know about the health risks (if any) to people from eating GM stuff - though the BSE issue in the UK (there is still no way of knowing what the long term implications of that will be) gives plenty of reason to be sceptical of food producers when they tell us these things are safe. But I think there are legitimate concerns about biodiversity - and how genetically engineered strains of common crops might behave in the wild, and if they might be susceptible to new variants of plant diseases. This is one reason to be concerned - not only the dodgy implications of crops with genetic expiry dates from being marketed to starving peoples (surely a means of slavery), but what could happen if those plants cross-pollinate in the wild.

But you don't live in California. You should be OK as it only seemed to affect Californian rats..

IK HOU VAN JOU, MARK

Take a large, almost round, rotating sphere about 8000 miles in diameter, surround it with a murky, viscous atmosphere of gases mixed with water vapor, tilt its axis so it wobbles back and forth with respect to a source of heat and light, freeze it at both ends and roast it in the middle, cover most of its surface with liquid that constantly feeds vapor into the atmosphere as the sphere tosses billions of gallons up and down to the rhythmic pulling of a captive satellite and the sun. Then try to predict the conditions of that atmosphere over a small area within a 5 mile radius for a period of one to five days in advance!
