My I130 was received and the NOA1 was sent out on 07/31/2009 by USCIS. While looking at case status on USCIS.gov, it appears that my case was last updated on 08/13/2009. What does it mean?

Lately, I've been hearing/finding of I-130 being approved within a month.

How many of us here in VISAJOURNEY have had 130 approved within a month who has put in 130 recently?

Thanks,

When you see an update on the USCIS site that means they are looking at your papers.

There are lucky people who got approved in a month, from the record as what I saw here in VJ, was less than a week. That, if only if you are one good of a lucky person. Goodluck!

It means they 'touched' your file. Any time a file is physical touched, they scan it into their system as such. I had an initial touch, then a touch after approval. That's it.

hey Malrothien, so it seems like your 130 was approved few days after it was touched.

I am hoping the same stands true in my case. Keeping all 10 fingers crossed :)..

That is so, but please don't take mine as the average case, because it isn't.

Isn't an IR-1 filed at the consulate instead? I know those go fast-my Finnish teacher got approved in a month at the Helsinki consulate! But then again, I may be mistaken on what an IR-1 even is!

Our timeline:

2/88: We met in Sydney, Australia at a youth hostel! He's Finnish, I'm American-both were in our early 20s at the time and fresh out of college (so couldn't afford to visit each other's countries after that!). We had a three-day romance, then went our separate ways. He actually was going to Sydney a week later, but decided at the last minute to cut his trip short in another country and go early. Wow.

1988-1998: Wrote "snail mail" letters/sent Xmas cards, but lived our separate lives. I married someone else, divorced in 2006...he lived with someone for years and then that ended.

10/08: Because of a series of random life events, I Googled my Finn Man and found him (but no link to his email, and the website his name was on was in Estonian so I couldn't even read it!). It took me two weeks to find a link to someone else, who forwarded my email to him (we were both single at the time thankfully!!!!). The email went to his spam folder but he happened to check it that day and responded back to me immediately! This was after 10 years of no contact and almost 21 years of not seeing each other after we first met.

11/08-5/09: We traveled back and forth to visit each other. Love at first (second?) sight!

7/09: Married in Helsinki, Finland...after meeting randomly 21 1/2 years ago and finding each other again!!!!!

8/13/09: I-130 sent!!!!!!!!!

Rest is on my timeline!

IR1 is the same type of visa as the CR1, the only difference is that with an IR1, you get a 10 yr green card, rather than a conditional 2-yr with the CR1.

Wow Maltrothien, you're so lucky! Did you send in a ton of evidence? (and thanks for explaining the IR-1!)

Hehe, thank you. I sent in a copy of our marriage certificate, copies of the first bank statement to the most recent, same for both our credit cards, copy of our lease agreement, a copy of our rental insurance agreement, and an affidavit from my father (who was at our wedding). I also wrote up a timeline in our cover letter about our relationship and my immigrating to Canada to marry my husband.

(you're most welcome!)

Thank you. :)

For the touches - you would just log into the USCIS website, and anytime the date changed, that was a touch.

I honestly don't believe it was the additional information we sent in that did it. Not to mention, a lot of couples wouldn't have as much - we've lived together for almost 4 years (married for 3.5 of those).
