Phuong and I are in Hue now, but we're heading to Hoi An in a few hours, along with a sizable portion of her family. We'll be staying in Hoi An tonight, and then in Ban An in Da Nang tomorrow night. After that, her family is going back to Hue, and Phuong and I are getting on a plane in Da Nang to HCM, and then on to Da Lat for a couple of days. We'll be in HCM on the 16th and 17th. I'm heading back to the US on the 18th.

We'll be staying at her cousin's hotel in the Tan Phu district. I think a little VJ lunch on the 17th would be great!

All of the airport employees in HCM are wearing masks, as well as many of the travelers. You'll also have to fill out some health related forms and turn them in before you get to the customs counters. They'll give you these forms on the plane. In typical Vietnamese style, people don't queue up to hand in their forms - they just kind of herd together and press their way to the front. The people collecting the forms will tear off the bottom of one form, which serves as a sort of receipt that you've filed your forms. The sheet instructs you to give it to the hotel staff where you'll be staying, but the staff at my hotel didn't want it and gave it back to me. The forms are simple - name, passport and flight numbers, where you'll be staying, etc. Plus yes/no questions about symptoms.

I'm about to head to the airport. Hopefully, my fiancee and I can stay safe and healthy while in Vietnam and on the way back to the U.S. And go through the POE without much problem and hassle. It would be great if I somehow can I bump into a VJ member who is in Vietnam during my trip. I will mostly stay around the HCM area.

Good luck to everyone else through this whole process. Hopefully when I come back, I can hear some good news from those who are having problems right now. I will go to the temple on my trip and I will say a few prays for my fellow VJers. Pink Pink Pink!

I'll land in HCM next Tuesday, maybe we can have a VJ party!! :star:

Party where... Sound like a lot of VJ are going back... I'll be going back to see my wife on the 19th, I'll be there for about three weeks... I'll be in HCM area near the airport... So if any one getting together please let us know... :ot::huh:

Wow! I totally missed this exchange.

After we left Hue, I had practically no internet access except for a few brief minutes in Da Lat, and then decent access once we got to Saigon (but only if I positioned my laptop in the "sweet spot" on the bed!). This thread probably dropped off the front page by then.

Also, I made a mistake in my earlier post. I said "Ban An" - I didn't know how to spell it, and had only heard it spoken. It was "Ba Na", as in "Ba Na Hills Resort". The resort isn't finished yet, but the cable lift ride is spectacular - about 20 minutes and several kilometers suspended a hundred feet over the jungle in the hills outside Da Nang! Rivers and streams, cascading waterfalls and spillways - really something! Phuong was petrified, and chanted her Buddhist mantra all the way up! We were stuck in the lift station for two hours before coming back down because of a lightening storm. The ride back down, over the jungle and in complete blackness, was enough to get ME chanting, too!

Oh, and while we were walking the pathways between the different resort buildings at the top, through gardens and jungle, Phuong's aunt caught an 8 inch long centipede with bright red legs. Deadly poison, I'm told, but possible to cook and eat with the right preparation, which was her intention.

Ok, I am certain that almost everyone says "Jim". I listened very carefully. Phuong's daughter takes English classes every day in school, and Phuong also has an English teacher, so I assume they've coached other family members. The only holdout is Phuong's mother, who says "Chim". I talked to her again briefly on the phone this morning, and I'm sure she's saying "Chim". No problem - I probably don't pronounce "mẹ" correctly.

Welcome back, Mike and Thanh!
