Earlier this week, Florida State Senator Carey Baker ® and State Representative Scott Plakon ® introduced a state Constitutional amendment that, if adopted, would prevent Floridians from enrolling in any federal health care plan. The language of House Joint Resolution 37 states:

To preserve the freedom of all residents of the state to provide for their own health care:

A law or rule shall not compel, directly or indirectly, any person, employer, or health care provider to participate in any health care system.

“We believe this unprecedented power-grab by President Obama and Congress is clearly not in the best interests of the citizens of Florida,” Baker and Plakon said in a joint statement ... [They] are sponsors of a “sovereignty” memorial, a measure meant to serve “as a notice and a demand to the Federal Government…to cease and desist, effective immediately, from issuing mandates that are beyond the scope of [their] constitutionally delegated powers.”

...

The Orlando Sentinel notes, “Nearly 4 million Floridians are uninsured presently".

Actually, this whole debate is getting stupid. How are we ever able supposed to get anything done like this? If neither side wants to give at all. Or is that the point? Just to keep us all squabbling about this for years so nothing will ever get changed or fixed?

We've barely begun.

What did you expect, a quick week-long process? What do you think this is, some tiny and almost-homogeneous European country?

A proposed change of this magnitude in a republic of 50 sovereign and very different states... I'd be worried if it only took a week!

No, he's doing what any good manager does. He's making sure the ball keeps rolling. He's not letting the Rethugs bog it down.

Well, I don't expect the current attempt to happen in a flash, no.

But this is something that's been debated for years and years. Ron Reagan made that ###### record back in 61 warning america about the evils of socialized medicine. Something should have been done ages ago. It should have never gotten to this point.

Yes, its a move to retain the STATES RIGHTS to GOVERN its citizens. This is a GIANT, OUT OF CONTROL power grab by Obama in a move to turn the US into a cradle to grave Nanny State. He is going to break our backs with this crazy health care plan. People need to wake up. YOU DO NOT WANT TO GIVE SO MUCH POWER TO SO FEW PEOPLE. Its just common sense people. Please wake up. Oh.......BTW.......I am a government employee.

Hey, its a free country, well, it used to be, so while I totally disagree with you on Obama's "Good Managment" practices. (hes not,) I will lay down my life for your right to say it. It is through opposing points of view that we come to an agreement that hopefully serves the purposes of all of the citizens of this great country. My theory is that he will crumble under the weight of his own ideals. I do not disagree with him on 100% of the issues. I can discuss companies that are too big killing off small business. I can discuss that Credit Card Companies are blood sucking parasites second only to the banks that own them. If the Big O smacks these down a bit. I am all for that. But Government running health care? oh, no, no, you have no idea how bad an idea that is.

Your argument is the same ol' Right Wing argument made against any Democratic President, past or present. It's being stuck on ideology and vacant of any real ideas or solutions for today's current problems, like health care. If you've got a better idea to insure millions of Americans who cannot afford health insurance, please share.

Reading comprehension seems to be lacking here. It says: "A law or rule shall not compel, directly or indirectly, any person, employer, or health care provider to participate in any health care system."

In other words no one will be forced into the system. If you want to be in it then you can.
