I am wondering the same thing. My husband and I are going on the Pride of America cruise in September. The cruise line will require my husband to show a passport as proof of identity. By September his I94 will be expired. We have started AOS but I'm concerned about uneducated cruise or TSA people. We're going to bring a copy of our AOS NOA, a copy of our marriage cert and whatever documentation we can find on the TSA website. it's still scary though.

Hey all! I have a good friend who pointed me to this thread, thinking people here might like some reassurance about going to Hawaii on a trip/honeymoon prior to GC/AoS approval/etc.

My *now* husband (formerly fiance') came to the US on a K1 (6/22 and married 7/17) and we're heading to Hawaii for a cruise on Thursday (but the cruise leaves on Saturday, 7/25 -- Pride of America)! Here's the thing... Hawaii is part of the 50 states... has been since 1959, I believe. So, although NCL says you have to show a passport, it doesn't matter. HAWAII is part of the United States of America. The cruise doesn't leave US waters, never enters International Waters, and therefore completely safe and worry-free for travel!

So, the non-USC can show a driver's license. Granted, the information on NCLs website says Passport but... if you examine more closely for the Hawaiian cruises...

CRUISING - FOR U.S. AND CANADIAN CITIZENS: (see link here)

Hawai'i Cruises

There's no need for a passport when you sail on any Hawai'i inter-island cruise. If your ship never sails beyond the islands of Hawai'i, all you need is a government-issued photo I.D. which includes a passport or a valid driver's license with a photo.

Enjoy Hawaii, everyone! :)

Moving from K-1 Process to Travelling Prior to GC forum.

Jon & Dana, there are a number of members who have taken Hawaiian cruises for their honeymoon. In fact, one of our newly married Canada Forum couples are on their way to theirs now. Just call the cruiseline and verify with them.

Krikit, now you can use this link as your source of information!

Event Date

ROC

9/24/11 - Mailed I-751 packet to CSC

9/26/11 - NOA1 Receipt Date

9/28/11 - Check cashed

10/1/11 - NOA1 arrived in mail

3/19/12 - RFE

5/3/12 - RoC APPROVED!!!

The only thing I don't get about the post is this "The cruise doesn't leave US waters, never enters International Waters, and therefore completely safe and worry-free for travel!"

Uh we don't own the entire eastern half of the pacific ocean people :P

Hawaiian cruises just cruise around the Islands, they don't really go into the Pacific waters for long.

They aren't cruising from California to Hawaii or anything like that.

Removing Conditions

Sent package to VSC - 8/12/11

NOA1 - 8/16/11

Biometrics - 9/14/11

im a little confused about something... i thought as soon as your Advanced Parole was approved (usually within 90 days) you could travel out of the country and re-enter as long as you had the approved AP forms and marriage certificate with you... isnt that how it works?

i didnt think you had to wait for actual full AOS approval and green card in hand... or am i misunderstanding something? i dont want to have to wait to take our honeymoon a year after getting married for her AOS approval... that would suck

No - your correct - AP allows travel prior to getting the GC.

OP was misinformed on waiting a year before they could leave the country. Your good to go :)

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

WARNING: Phrases in this post may sound meaner than they were intended to be. Read the Adjudicator's Field Manual from USCIS

You guys have brought up some interesting points. After talking, we decided to put the cruise on hold until our AOS/GC. It’s better to be safe than sorry rather than feeling the wrath of regret incase we did screw up. Regardless, we still plan on having a very nice and beautiful honeymoon! Maybe the Florida Keys?!?! July09bride, please let me know how your honeymoon/cruise turns out once you get back!

The Keys are a wonderful vacation spot! We were just there in January/February of this year and loved it.
