Well, we were kinda having a conversation that seemed pretty fluid until I asked some questions that I'd love to hear answers to....meaning I'd love to hear speculation from someone in 'the other camp' so to speak...and the response I got seemed a little 'diverty'.

Speculative opinion is great since you can't get him on the phone sorry for not being more clear!

Lisa - I could make any and all kinds of speculation on this issue, but I do not (and clearly cannot have) any concrete or authoritative knowledge about paperwork relating to Obama's childhood, pulling random guff out of my a$$ with nothing to back it up or substantiate it would be a pointless exercise.

It is my view that conspiracy theories are fueled by this sort of thing - and that if concrete answers cannot reasonably be provided (by me) asking the questions (of me) is kind of silly because at the end of the day speculation in the absence of information is entirely pointless.

I do think its reasonable to wonder who it is who is propagating these rumours - to my knowledge noone in the media is treating this as a serious story, and so it has become the domain of internet bloggers and faux journalists.

Sure it is. In fact, these ridiculous non-issues were a major point of the opposition to Obama from a pseudopolitical stance... so they're all fair game to laugh at.

Actually, I don't agree...and I find the correlation to be a bit insulting. You obviously don't agree with my questions, but to lump it in the same category as 'omG!!!111 Obama's a drug addict! loch ness monster! etc' is quite insulting. Obviously I'm a fairly reasonable and intelligent person, and your insinuation otherwise is quite frankly, rude.

...which is part of the behavior here which prompted me to start this thread to begin with. No one likes to be mocked when (s)he is trying to have a rational discussion, and responses like this are only intended to mock and bait.

Well, of course the die hard conservatives will ride this as long as possible...I wouldn't expect anything less from either side, given the circumstances...But imo, at the end of the day, there's enough legitimate questions surrounding this thing to keep any reasonable person wondering. Surely, there is bias on both sides of the fence, which will always come into play. I didn't vote for him, am not impressed with the job thusfar, but I would love it if he just produced the fuquing thing so everyone should shut up about it. His refusal to do so will only fuel these fires.

This would be a huge scandal - HUGE - if Obama turned out to be not a US Citizen.

While people inevitably jump on the idea that the media is biased in the liberal direction, the press really isn't that loyal when a massive scandal appears.

Besides - if you aren't prepared to trust the media (in general) with providing the information necessary to form a view on a subject of which you can have no direct knowledge, then what sources do you use to define your own views?

Skepticism of bias in the mass media and the ease with which individuals can publish has bolstered the popularity of amateur reporters and bloggers - giving rise to the media equivalent of Chinese Whispers. I'm not saying you can't get information from those sources that isn't available elsewhere - but its surely a case of how you separate the #######.

Generally speaking, the mass media (for all its faults) is still the primary definer on most breaking stories.
