I-864A Proving Relationship to Sponsor

Received a notice of missing information on the co-sponsors I-864A filled out by the brother. The sister is the sponsor and the brother is providing the financial support. They stated "You as a household member have not provided proof of your relationship to the sponsor."

What proof is needed to show that the I-864A brother is the brother of the sister? I know of no legal documents that proves a brother and sister are related except the birth certificate show a common mother.

Thanks,

Not to be a smarta$$, but I believe that you answered your own question: birth certificates. Maybe notarized affidavits from both the brother and sister could be used.

From the step by step I-864A instructions for line 8c:

If you check any other relative except for spouse, you must provide proof of the relationship and that you have the same principal residence as the sponsor.

Thanks,

I forgot to ask...the NVA asked to send in a new I-964A and says "Please provide all requested documents." Does this mean send in all the original supporting docs again, or just this missing information? (I see that I checked the wrong box on the I-864A that says the brother is the son...Opps.

If you checked the wrong box then you should send a new 864A for the brother with the needed documentation and the correct box checked. :) Don't take the chance that the incorrect form will get fixed. Also attach a cover letter explaining the mistake and instructing them to remove that form and use the new form in its place.

Doing these forms can test your sanity at times.
