Dear VJ,

We are planning our big move soon. From NY/NJ to Baton Rouge. We figure it will take us about 3 days to get there, if we take our time...

So far our route looks like this:

1) NJ to Roanoke, VA

2) Roanoke to Birmingham, AL

(or Roanoke to Chattanooga)

3) Birmingham to Baton Rouge

Looks like we will be traveling a lot on South 81 and South 59, among others.

Any suggestions about any points of interest along the way? Cool places to stop off along the route? Or even other towns to spend the night in? We've never made this trip before so we are up for suggestions, and we want to have some fun along the way.

Thanks!

I haven't driven the route you are planning. But I did once drive I-55 end to end, from Chicago to Louisiana. As you get into the South, I was amazed by the Waffle Houses at literally every interchange from the freeway.

On our return trip north we came via Atlanta and Knoxville - eastern Tennessee is really beautiful in the Blue Ridge Mountains.

:o u r abandoning ship???? wth!!!

Best of luck with the move sister... u guys driving a uhaul or what?

i know! i'm going to miss Jersey...

We are doing the U-Pack thing, and having them drive it down for us...

Jersey will miss you! Don't forget to pay your tolls on the way out

Jersey: Free to get in... pay thru the nose to get out....

Sounds like a bad divorce.

Yup. They showed up on time to both leave the trailer and pick it up. The dude was awesome. And when it all arrived in Seattle they held it for us for a couple of days until we took possession of our place. Very very trustworthy.

Oooooooooooh I love the Waffle House! Living here in the South, you just kinda know how you like to place your order before you even go in there. :P I always order 2 pecan waffles (one to take home), a side of sausage patties, and I like my hashbrowns scattered, chunked, and covered. oooooooh yummy! :D

That's the problem with wanting to leave the dirty jerz..they tax you mega to get out! Ridiculous.

Have a fun/safe move.

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard
