Wasn't meant to insult ... but i do find it rather funny how people go all ga ga goo goo over tim hortons ..

Well, these are people who aren't at 'home' and Tim Horton's is a Canadian institution - so it's a little piece of home that makes them happy.

Happy Canadians with their coffee/doughnuts/sandwiches.

I was trying to explain the "goo-goo ga ga-ness" of Tim Hortons at work the other day and no one understood. They kept trying to find something comparable.

"Oh like krispy kreme?"

I'd say no.

"Like dunkin donuts?"

I'd say no again.

I can't explain it but it's just a Canadian thing. I came from a town of 16,000 and in that town there were 7 Tim Hortons and every morning there would be a long line up at each of them. It's almost like a Canadian sub culture. I don't drink more than 1 cup of coffee a day down here. But when I go home... I drink at least 2 or 3 and daily trips to Tim Hortons are not unheard of.

The only way to explain it is like kids in the car when they see a mcdonalds sign ... its like oh mcdonalds can we go can we go can we go ... I've seen adults in canada who cannot drive past a tim hortons without stopping ...i've even seen adults yell at the kids and say "we don't need to stop at every mcdonalds just because we pass it " then 3 seconds later " oh a tim hortons lets stop and get a coffee"... pffftt ... I can say sure a little reminder of home .. but people in canada don't need a reminder of canada and thats where it starts ...

I'm not whiney .... and i am not sappy ... which is why it may sound like whiney to you .. i don't ga ga goo and go ooh it's from canada i must froth at the mouth .. hahaha .. One thing that bothered me BIG TIME when i lived in canada was all the people from somewhere else saying things like .. at home we did things like this and that and this was better and that was great and we had better this and that .. kinda made me think to myself grrr go back home then if you don't like it here .. so always told myself that i would never act like that when i moved here. But i myself do not see the whole big tim horton love .. it's not whiney it's just .. well darn it it's just coffee hahaha

But i'll end it here ... cause well ... ya know fall in line with the cliques and all ...

Thats fine if you don't like something, and I'm all for free speech. But why come into a post and then cut down people that do like something!! I just don't understand people. Guess some prefer the negative in life.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Do you like hockey RYCK? Do you like curling?

Those are also things that Canadians go "go-go gah gah" over. Its a matter of culture and people tend to attach themselves to their culture. Now that many of us have left our homes behind, it excites us to have a little piece of home close by.

Wawa is the reason I decided to move to NJ!

Wawa is GOD reincarnated.

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard
