Naturalized citizen, Alien registration # for I-129F and G-325A

Hi there,

I'm just filling out the I-129F and G325A and am about to embark on the journey that is being made easier by this forum.

My question is related to being a naturalized citizen. The I-129F and G-325A forms have a entry for an Alien Registration number (A#) for the application. I didn't think that I had one anymore since I became a citizen, or at least not one that was "current". But looking at my Certificate of Naturalization, there is an Alien Registration number shown.

So the questions are:

1) should I use this number on those forms? or should I put NONE? Can a US citizen have a valid Alien registration number?

2) on the G-325A form, on the first row for entries, name, birthdate, nationality, etc., there's a box that has "A" in the box, which seems to be asking for the Alien Registration number, but the annotation in the box says "File Number". Should I be filling it in with my alien registration no. assuming that I'm filling it in everywhere where the forms want one (depending on answer to 1) or should I fill it out with "NONE" in any case.

Thanks for any hints that anyone may provide and best of luck to all!

Eva Malahova,

Perhaps because you're a native-born US citizen?

hi howard i am a naturalized citizen as well. the way i filled out my application was to provide the certificate number on the I-129F. From my understanding and past conversations / inquiries with the USCIS ( i called them twice to make sure), if you already were naturalized then you put N/A on the A# (both) section since this A# refers to the number on your greencard which the USCIS gets back from you before you get your certificate of naturalization. the number, if any, that they look at from this point on would be your naturalization number located on your certificate which is located on the upper right hand corner. this number which may start with A as well, you will need provide on #10 on the I-129F form.

other than that, they said to mark the sections asking for A# on the G-325A form N/A or NONE (yes even the bottom part)

this is my input, and i am only relaying the instructions provided to me by USCIS Customer Service Center. So far i have not had any RFE's in connection with the way i filled out my application. the only RFE i had was the one in relation to IMBRA.

Im hoping someone else who was naturalized can either confirm or negate this. or another option is to call the USCIS customer service peeps.

goodluck...

I'm also a naturalized citizen, and from what I was told, your A# will always be a part of you, even after you become a citizen.

I-129F: I put my A# on question 8b.

G-325A: I only put my A# at the very bottom, where it says "Alien Regristration Number". At the top, where it asks you for a file number, I put none (file number and A# are NOT the same thing).

I hope this helps.

Hi Everyone!

Thanks for everyone who've replied. Sorry it's taken me so long to do this, but I'm actually in Malaysia right now visiting my fiancee.

I'm guessing that there's no right or wrong way to fill out the alien registration number if you're a naturalized US citizen since it seems that there is evidence in the 2 responses that both ways work (to fill in or not to fill in).

So, I'll probably just fill it in, since I do have it handy.

Thanks again!! And best of luck to all...
