Hi

Anyone here had to get the shots for the requirement, I just learned yesterday its part of it if your under 26? and i am quite upset about that, I for one do not want it or believe in it, and are willing to take the risk associated with it. Why in the world would they force us to take it? are they that low that they would think that we'd go around cathching something so we'd put there country at risk? well I am under 26 and in that pool, and seriously considering to get and exemption from it has anyone had experience with this and got out of it? I heard its a big debate about this shot.

You can apply for a waiver for it, I've heard someone got it approved, but don't remember who it was. It does add a few months onto your process though, just so you know. All of us are required to get it without said waiver because anything that is recommended for the US public becomes an automatic MUST for immigrants due to a law they put in place in the 90s. They are doing some looking into it not being required but who knows when/if that will go through.

Well I rather wait than be forced in to something you dont want, and the risks are not worth it. So I rather be delayed if it means cutting the risks, if I wanted the vaccine I would have got it on my own already, but why be forced in to a vaccine that should not be forced on to, its not like mumps or measels, it is preventable.

Also I am nursing so I am not getting something that would risk harming my baby, so I don't know. They say pregnant woman are excluded does that mean nursing too?

^^ If you are pregnant its not required, but I don't think nursing counts sorry. You may want to call the Panel Physician and ask just to be sure.

And, like Danu mentioned you can file for a waiver but it does add on several months to the end of your process, which still doesn't guarantee that they will approve your waiver.

It has nothing to do with the U.S. thinking that woman will be sleeping around and spreading HPV. I don't remember exactly where I read it, but some board somewhere made the Gardisil vaccination a requirement for something more generic and it just so happened that for immigration purposes they use the same regulations. So it was put into effect.

Yes, I agree it was a bit of a hassle to get it before I moved (and expensive) but at the end of the day - the risk of complication or side effects is pretty slim and it does prevent me from 4 strains of HPV, which prevent cervical cancer. So I just look on the bright side of things. Cervical cancer is pretty debilitating, so I feel better knowing I'm protected from 4 strains (better than nothing).

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

There have been several threads about this, you might find more info in them - there was also someone who posted here who was going to apply for a waiver, but I don't know if they ever posted back on how that went.

As you are a nursing mother, I would apply for the waiver after reading section 8.3 of flames's document thingy.

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard

I am the total opposite. I kinda thought it was a good idea because if its going to 'somehow' prevent cervical cancer, then why not take the shots. They are expensive, about $160, if u go to your personal physician but if u go to the health department, u will only pay $20......at least in Texas. Unless it could harm ur baby but if your physician says its ok, just go for it and btw......if u file for a waiver, its going to hold you back for a couple of months.

In my opinion, I'd shop around and see if you can find a civil who will mark it "not suitable" because you are nursing.

We were very slow with the vaccination record to the point where we went to a CS the week before the interview to get the HPV shot only to find they were out. So we went to the interview and even after it expected an RFE for the record with the HPV shot on it. We were approved without it.

Btw all the older woman on here are very lucky that the drug lobby didn't win the 30's age recommendation a few months back.

Unfortunatly in Canada, we cannot 'shop around' for our Civil surgeons - there are 3 in the whole country, and it is a Canadian requirement that people under 26 get Gardisil - all the doctors are all going to say the same thing :S

You dont have to get that shot or the others from the panel physicians, you can get them at ur family Dr. or whatever medical provider you wish. believe others have stated they phoned around and were able to get it cheaper

Ah yes, I read that Montreal requires all of the shots for a visa, so I guess there is no option to wait until you arrive here and talk to one here.

I just think its stupid, to force you in to something so personal, just another way for US to pump us with more toxins, they only got 36 vaccines on there scheduel as if that isnt enough. Well as I said I rather get the extra months than get that near me. It is not a safe shot, there are so many srious side effects and even the FDA it self now put out warnings about it. I am glad those that don't have any problems after getting it let's really hope it stays that way, but what about the 9000 other reported cases since 2006 of the shot causing life threatning effects in girls as young as 13 years old that is just not right. America is known for the whole vaccination contraversial debate and the autism link, they give us way too much toxins, what about those with problems from it no one is hearing them out they just get slaped in the face and told it wassnt the vaccine's fault well its there way to protect themselves from a huge lawsuit. They don't care about our health but there money and how much they make on thousands of immigrants and citizens getting vaccines. And its not like the other vaccines where yea i am all for they are serious, but gardisil is really a personal decision, if you are not exposed to cervical cancer or any source to get it from why get the shot? yea so it says it protects you but you never know when it can cause a side effect, I just dont think the shot is safe enough or enough studies done to make sure it doesnt happen. What about religious beliefs? here in Canada the catholic school boards have banned it due to beliefs against sex before marriage. It is just plain wrong to force something upon someone when its on the basis of religion and personal decision.
