Oh don't worry no SoCal'ers worth their salt are going to end up moving to Texas.

Great!!! Then it's a win-win.

We're still a donor state, which along with all the other donor states prop up the real dead weights like Alaska, Alabama, Kansas and Oklahoma

then start donating to that state budget shortfall.

That makes no sense. I already pay my share - maybe the subsidized states should pay CA back all that extra federal money they've been getting.

donations are a foreign concept to you?

no....is paying your own way a foreign concept? apparently so in the subsidized states.

where did you get the idea i don't pay my own way?

LoL..... Texas declares it's independance and 30 minutes later is conquered by Mexico

i think it would be the other way around.

Kind of like Louisiana...

Wait, why is Louisiana dead weight? Thought they were still experiencing some job growth...as recently as this past spring?

It's a money pit. There will never be a return on the investment made by 'everyone else'....Never, because the local government there have proven time and time again that they are corrupt...I'm not even sure they have ever been interested in elevating New Orleans from the crime-ridden gangland it has become....

And for all the green folks out there-It would be ecologically beneficial in countless ways to return Louisiana to it's natural state of wetlands/swamps and barrier 'islands'.....jmo.

Take a large, almost round, rotating sphere about 8000 miles in diameter, surround it with a murky, viscous atmosphere of gases mixed with water vapor, tilt its axis so it wobbles back and forth with respect to a source of heat and light, freeze it at both ends and roast it in the middle, cover most of its surface with liquid that constantly feeds vapor into the atmosphere as the sphere tosses billions of gallons up and down to the rhythmic pulling of a captive satellite and the sun. Then try to predict the conditions of that atmosphere over a small area within a 5 mile radius for a period of one to five days in advance!

if people donate $$$ ... can we make cali a national monument/ park and charge everyone who lives there a daily admission fee?

Ok, a lot of you are simply failing to grasp what Robin means by 'donor state'. Either that or the ignorance is willful.

A state is a donor state when the sum of the contributions to the federal treasury of all its residents/businesses exceeds the amount of money received by the state from the federal government.

This is a subject that has been broached on VJ many times before, but apparently you've all forgotten.

 Like Texas!

Federal Tax Burdens and Expenditures: Texas is a Donor State

Texas taxpayers receive less federal funding per dollar of federal taxes paid compared to the average state. Per dollar of Federal tax collected in 2005, Texas citizens received approximately $0.94 in the way of federal spending. This ranks the state 35th nationally and represents a slight decrease from 1995, when Texas received $0.95 per dollar of federal taxes paid (ranking them 37th nationally). Neighboring states and the amount of federal spending they received per dollar of federal taxation paid were as follows: New Mexico ($2.03), Oklahoma ($1.36), Arkansas ($1.41), and Louisiana ($1.78).
