Hey, guys! Please, help me!

Im going back to Russia in the beginning of Aug and coming back in the middle of Aug. My international passport expires on Dec 01, 2009.

My husband is worried that i can have problems with coming back to USA since my passport will expire less than in 6 months of my return..... Should i be worried? and also, is it true that its better to buy tickets on my maiden name?

Thank you all!!!!!!

You have your GC? That, with your unexpired passport should be sufficent for you to come back into the US.

Perhaps you could renew the passport during your trip?

Whatever name your identification is using is what you should use on your plane tickets, for ease of travel I would think.

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

I doubt that a couple of weeks will be sufficient to renew you passport in Russia, unless you pay to expediate it (i.e. bribe). You might contact the Russian embassy in D.C. and speak with them.

BINGO!!

A friend of ours almost lost out on two round trip tickets NYC to Moscow because she didn't think the spelling of her last name was that important. Thank God her ex took her to the airport and was able to find someone to straighten it out, but she and her son missed the plane and they had to fly the next day.

Make sure the names match!

Also, I don't know about the other airlines, but effective 1 July Delta has a limit of ONE 50 pound checked bag now and they're cracking down on carry on sizes. Be prepared.

I do know that when my wife renewed hers she had to send it to the consulate so dont try to renew it before hand unless you know wyou will get it back quickly(which you wont). If you are returning in sept then you should be fine with your GC and passport, if they hassle you tell them you tried to renew it at home but it would take too long and you are going to renew shortly. Shouldnt be a problem.
