when is the good time to transfer CAD to US$

I actually trade forex for myself for a living, typically the Euro, Canadian Dollar, Aussie Dollar and Japanese Yen.

I moved a chunk from the USD into Canadian when it was up at 1.31, took off half at 1.09  and suspect we will see lower in the next 3-6 months. The traders in Chicago are planning a parity party (USD and Canadian at parity) and expect it before Christmas. At the end of the day the USD has some tough days ahead of it with both the Russians and Chinese talking about a global reserve currency which even the suggestion of which hurts the dollar and helps the Canadian.

As someone pointed out above the CAD also has a strong correlation to Crude Oil which is taking a breather right now.

As yet another person pointed out unless you are talking a reasonable amount it isn't worth spending too much time on it but you can probably save a few hundred bucks by timing it right AND shopping around.

Good luck,

Ok I have two questions about customhouse. I think someone needs to start charging commission on the Canada forum! LOL! Anyways, I want to set up an account with customhouse as I am moving to the US in mid-Sept.

1. Being that I already have a US bank account that is active from when I lived in the US, can I set up an account with them before I move?

2. Does customhouse do transfers from your Canadian bank account to American bank account? AND your transfers from American bank account back to your Canadian bank account. I would definitely need them for BOTH and would make my life so much simpler.

Yes to both questions - I set up my CH account well before I moved, and you can transfer both ways.

It makes my life simpler that's for sure!

I set mine up last week, just filled in the online form and then I got this email. No one called me, but I called them and gave them my SSN. Few minutes later I got a confirmation email that the account was set up.

Now I can just log in an check the exchange rate at any time, which is really convenient.

Okay I'm about to do my first transaction...

For payment methods, do I select:

Debit my account

OR

I will initiate wire transfer?

And then I'm guessing it is the EFT option for the next part...

Wire transfer is the one you pay $25 for. Like if you wanted it the same day or if you wanted to pay someone in the UK or something. What you should really do is give them a call, tell them that it's your first trade, and you'd like them to help step you through it. Then write down all the instructions as you go because you'll forget.
