Many doctors, if not most, in Montreal also have practices in Ottowa and scarf up the fee limits in both Provinces, often working two days in Montreal and 3 days in Ottowa.

Gary, it's Ottawa, not Ottowa.

It just happens to be the capital city of Canada, a city with a population of over 800,000 in a metropolitan area of over 1 million.

Aside from the many other inaccuracies and fallacies in this thread, this one in particular irks me.

if canada is so great, why are so many people coming to the states for elective surgeries?

Elective surgery doesn't have all that much to do with health care, does it? There are scores of people in the US that can't get necessary surgery because they can't afford it. That is the concern. The opportunity to get a ####### or nose job done doesn't say much about the quality of a health care system.

somehow it has never been an issue for me. i guess that's because i've worked all of my adult life, and have never been without a job for more than 7 days at a time. maybe the whiners who can't afford health care as it stands should try it sometime?

let's face it, this entire re-rigging is just gonna be a tax on the working and a free ride for the non-working. people should just man up and admit that they want to take some cash out of their neighbor's pocket every week. they shouldn't feel such shame about acknowledging that they just want to steal something else they never earned from someone who did. democrats have been saying that this kind of immoral behaviour is their entitlement for decades. why is there still so much shame?

so you want me to pay for someone else's "necessary" surgery? too bad. if they can't afford it, they prolly won't die anyway, so just how "necessary" was it, really? and if they die, it's the law of the jungle baby. the first month i was in china i knew that i could not "fix" the impoverishment of a nation. it was up to the chinese to take care of themselves.

lots of people travel to mexico, phillipines, thailand, etc for cosmetic surgery because it's cheaper there to have the surgery and recoup in a spa for 2 weeks than to have the surgery here and walk out the door 4 hours later. too bad staph infections kill. lots of people buy prescription drugs in canada or mexico because they're cheaper there, too. so good on them. take your two pills of donkey excrement every day and see if you get better. seen it and know how many chinese babies died because the American FDA has no sway in China. the drugs in many countries are just as good as tainted chinese milk, fellas.

Sounds good. We'd be a much stronger nation if we cut off the deadwood. The sick, the unemployed, the handicapped.

What about the small business guys & gals... and freelancers... who are making an okay buck, but not enough for private, mediocre healthcare coverage?

Still dead weight?

If their service was worthy of the resources they consume, they'd be able to afford it.

And for the losers who work jobs that don't offer insurance, I have this to say: get a real job, ya deadbeats!

Let's face it, there are millions of working people that lack access to adequate health care. And let's also face this: We're collectively paying by far the most on healthcare and get by far the least in return. This country allows itself to be ripped off day after day, year after year by an industry that is incapable of achieving efficiencies anywhere near what any government in any developed country is able to achieve.

According to city-data, Harrisburg (the city, not the metro area) in 2000 had fewer people than my 'suburb' in jersey does

Adolf felt that way, too. Didn't work out all that great for him...

That's because that socialist FDR got in the way

Ottawa ON - The 2006 Census recorded the population at over 812,000, making it the fourth largest municipality in the country and second largest in Ontario. Connected by several bridges to its Quebec neighbour, the City of Gatineau on the northern shores of the Ottawa River, the two cities had a combined 2006 population of over 1,130,000, making it the country's fourth largest metropolitan area.

Harrisburg PA - As of the 2000 census, the city had a population of 48,950, making it the tenth largest city in Pennsylvania, after Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Allentown, Erie, Reading, Scranton, Bethlehem, Lancaster, and Altoona. The Harrisburg-Carlisle-Lebanon Combined Statistical Area, including both the Harrisburg-Carlisle and Lebanon Metropolitan Statistical Areas, had an estimated population of 656,781 in 2007

City limits - Ottawa vs. Harrisburg - 812,000 vs 48,950 - factor 16:1.

Metro area - Ottawa vs. Harrisburg - 1,130,000 vs 656,781 - factor 1.7: 1

As usual, you are just plain, factually dead wrong and manifestly incapable of even conducting a basic fact check before posting your factual misstatements. Given that you can't even get basic facts like urban populations right,is it really any wonder no one gives any credence to your equally bizarre statements of opinion?

I am most certainly not your 'buddy'.
