Reason for Social Security Card

HI EVERYONE,

I called the social security office and they said what my reason was for needing a card. Since we are filing our AOS hopefully next weekI thought we would get it now. They said they could not give it just for a drivers license. What reasons can i give?

You need it for work? Once the EAD comes in = work.

Alien allowed to work.... that is the reason

So you came on a K1 and already got married? Then you are right now not allowed to work until your EAD is approved and you will then get your SSN.

If you are not married yet then you can get it. I did, they didn't even ask question as of why. However, you do need it for opening up bank accounts, insurance and such.

If you are eligible to be assigned an SSN based on your K-1 status you don't need a reason to be assigned an SSN. What they are asking about is for people that aren't authorized based on status and need a valid non work reason to be assigned an SSN.

Tell them to look at POMS section RM 00203.500 C1 and they will see that a K-1 is work authorized for SSN purposes and the I-94 is the proof.
