Flying out of Vancouver

Sorry everyone, I'm sure there is a thread relating to this, but I haven't found it yet!

So I'm just wondering if anyone flew out of Vancouver, BC and where the POE is? At the airport? I seem to recall when I went to Hawaii, and flew out of there, I went through either Canada immigration or US Customs, but I hadn't boarded the plane yet! And I'm almost positive when I arrived in Seattle, I didn't need to go through anything, just get on the next plane to Hawaii. I'm really not that familiar with flying out of Canada, but I'm sure this is the way I'll go when I move. Guess I just want to make sure that envelope gets into the right hands.

US Pre-clearance facility is at the Vancouver airport and you will go through it before boarding your plane that is bound for the USA

Yup- you go through US Customs at the airport. If you are activating your visa, you hand everything to the Officer and he will bring you to the back. I did mine in Edmonton. They just told me to have a seat and 10 minutes later it was all done and they gave me my passport back and reminded me about AOS (mine was a K3)

Ahhh ok...Thanks!! I'm just one of those..."trying to get all the ducks in a row" kinda gal!! LOL LOL Just trying to keep things organized so there's no surprises!

Thanks, I am waiting for them to come and take my car away to the car cemetary. She lived a good life for an 88 Honda Accord with almost 400,000 kilometers on her weary body. I thanked her for all she did for us and took off the plates. Bye bye car!

My car too! She's an 88 ford taurus, but with less than 200,000 kms to her. But she's weary..time to send her on her way. I am going to put a for sale sign in the window, because even if I get $200 for her, that's still more in my pocket!!

Just trying to sell the house now....

Here is my POE experience this morning.

- Arrived at YVR at 0510 for my 0823 flight

- HUGE line up at United Airlines - they told me I couldn't take my laptop and a carry on suitcase Paid $20.00 to check my carry on suitcase

- 0545 arrived at first customs officer "I am here to have my visa proceeded" - he seemed confused on what to do with all my stuff. He asked where I worked I explained that I had worked for the Vancouver School Board and that Friday was my last day of work. He wanted to know if I owned a house in Cali. Eventually he asked me to proceed through the double doors

- 0555 nice young officer takes my work hands back the xray and asks me to take a seat and I will get you out of here as soon as possible. A couple of minutes later he takes me into another room and asks me to sign a paper in a small rectangle with a Sharpie and then takes 2 fingerprints. He get me some cleaner up i had wiped it away already. Then he takes me to the counter and explains about the visa and welcomes me to the USA.

15 minutes tops!! Easy peasy!!

Wow!! I was thinking of a carry on and laptop too...I was going to put my laptop in a bag I sometimes use as a purse to carry my camera, wallet, magazines, etc. and a carry on. I might have to do some quick re-thinking!! ( or just bring $20 extra cash...)

Good to hear the cross over wasn't that bad!! I hope I'm just as fortunate! Do you get your 1-94 at the crossing? Or do you even get one for the kind of visa your on?

Check with your air carrier. Different airlines have different allowances. Southwest will allow for a laptop and bag, plus an extra carry-on. They also let you have two pieces of checked luggage up to 50 lbs. I Southwest.

wow! Thanks for the tip! The flight that I had found so far that fits my budget is American Airlines, plus I like the time that it leaves. (noonish). I'll have a flight from the Island to Vancouver as well, but I'll probably take the 7:00 am one, and it's only 1/2 hour. So I kinda have two flights to check!

Rats!! Southwest doesn't fly out of Vancouver!! Oh well. Looks like I can only find American Airlines, and they charge for checked luggage!! 1st bag, $15, 2nd, $25. I know I want to bring two, because I can't ship my things down before moving...*makes me a wee upset too*..

Wow...they sure like to take your money!!!
