hiring an attorney?

When I first started the process I was considering a lawyer, but then I realized my case was pretty straight forward so I would save the money. The process is scary and quite intimidating, but just READ, READ, READ and you will be fine. Like many others have said if there isn't anything unusual about your case then you can do it yourself. Good luck, which ever route you choose.

Our time line for CR1 visa took only 5 months and 1 week or 156 days; from the filing the I-130 on the 03-12-2009 to Approval of NOA2 on the 05/13/2009, then Interview on the 08/18/2009 at Manila, Philippines. We had a daughter on the 11-12-2010 named AISHA JOY means HAPPY LIFE.a1_opt-1.jpga2_opt-1.jpga3_opt-1.jpg

I am just starting the K-1 visa process. I wanted to hire an attorney to make sure everything was done right and I don't screw anything up. Has anyone out there used easyfiancevisa.com? They seem to be cheaper than anyone else, but also seem to be fairly new to the game. They have been very prompt and through in the conversations I've had with them. I know they're a main advertiser on this site....anybody have personal experience with them?

Only you can determine if it is worth hiring a lawyer. This is from the I-129F Instructions.

The public reporting burden for this collection of information is estimated at 1 hour, 30 minutes per response,

including the time for reviewing instructions, completing and submitting the form.

So, Basically 90 Minutes or less for the average person.

So, even with triple checking everything,, maybe 2-3 hours of your time.

I think better to use a lawyer to resolve problems not do busy work.

For example most Americans have no issue doing their own taxes using the 1040ez. Of course you need a simple tax situation.

Same here, if your case is straight forward. Most people could easily do this. I suggest you download the I-129f instructions,

the I-129F form,,, look at the complexity. And then decide.

Good luck,, we are here to support you no matter the course fo action you choose...

Regards,

A lawyer will always be attentive to you during your initial conversations until the point where you send the money. Then they are difficult to reach and generally unavailable to help you. Follow the K1 guide and ask questions here.

No issues with my attorney in this regard. Just depends on who you get as an attorney and what research you did beforehand. Your dr, mechanic, accountant any srevice provider could be this way. Isn't just an immigration attorney. I've been able to call and email at any time. Have gotten responses to emails I sent at the end of a work day, thinking I would get a response the next day but sure enough within an hour or so I have a detailed response to my questions. Never had to hunt him down to get answers I needed. Not to mention it is nice to have a professional handling the case. Not all cases are the same so a blanket statement that everyone should get advice here and they are good to go is not the best route. Look at your situation, and then determine if you need one.

So very true!

My attorney has been great! It depends on how important this issue is to you if you want an attorney and you make sure that you hire a good one!

It can be argued that the posters who state "You do not need an attorney" or "Attorneys are not worth it in this (or any) stage of the process" are sidestepping the spirit (if not the word) of the passage above. How bad would such posters feel if a questioner RELIED on their advice and did NOT retain an attorney, and it turned out sooner or later that an attorney was really needed?

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Sure, as in all things in life,,, ask the question,,, look for validation (at least 3 points), Are you seeing a positive result from what

others are experiencing. Just because you pay someone,, does not mean you get good advise or the proper attention.

I think I am even handed, if you are detail orientated and have a straight forward petition. Consider, whether you will be best served by hired help. If you decide you would like to use a lawyer, avail yourself to the resources here and learn the process. No-one is more interested in a short and successful timeline then you or the spouse.

My petition is definately not straight forward,,, but, I am logical and detail orientated. I just got the NVC completion statement

when I talked to their customer service center today. Our timeline should be about 5 months,, I-130 mailed through Interview.

As for me,,,, I learned how to clean a toilet with with a tooth-brush in the Marine Corps... So, I am sure I can do a better job then Merry Maids,,, But, I think I'll leave that task to them (good use of hired help),, and just check on the results later...

Regards to all,
