How long it takes to get a passport through expedite service?

I know that on the US travel website it says 2 to 3 weeks for an expedite service but I was just wondering if someone has the experience of getting a passport through expedite service and know for sure how long does it take in real, and also if someone know after how many days I get my certificate of naturalization back and if comes through regular mail or expedite mail since I paid for the expedite service.

Any posts I have seen to date show that people receive their passport 2-3 weeks following application regardless of if they paid extra for the expedite service or not. Unless you REALLY need your passport in a hurry, I would not bother paying the extra $$$ as there is a very good chance you won't get the passport any faster.

I did not pay for expidited service but I got my passport in 10 days and got the certificate back in the ordinary mail 4 days later.

We always paid for expedient service, but was wondering, how do they send you your passport if you don't? Regular mail? With expedient, you have to be around whenever the postman decides to show up and sign for it, if not, he leaves you a note to deliver it the next day, or the next day, or you can drive over to the post office and pick it up.

It was delivered in the regular mail, no signature required.

Methinks when the time comes to apply for a passport, I won't bother with expedited service. That money is far better spent on important things like Cadbury's.

I think if you're not planning on travelling any time soon and if it's not likely that an emergency might come up, you might as well go with regular service which is pretty fast. Unfortunately I always have to expect to have to travel on short notice because my Dad has ongoing health problems. So I wanted to make sure I would get my passport as fast as possible. But otherwise I would have just gone with regular service. And even if something comes up and you need your passport faster and have applied already, you always can "upgrade" to expedited service or go to a passport office and get it quicker. Of course that is last-minute hassle which you don't really need, but it's good to know that it's possible.

if you have travel documents w/in 14 days you can go to a local passport office and get your passport in 48 hours. i did it in december, took my travel itinerary, and old passport, paid $165. applied on wednesday afternoon, passport picked up on friday morning.
