They offer statistics based upon crime and arrest data. I see nowhere on there any discussion of incarcerations.

Even for the crime data, there is no breakdown by ethnicity or by legal/illegal immigration status.

I know here in CA they are talking about "giving" all the illegals in our state prisons to the Federal govt -- get them off our broke state's budget. Don't remember how many of these prisoners there are, but the annual cost is $30K each.

Why do we keep them here anyway? Buy the one way ticket home....

It probably has something to do with the wanting to punish people for crimes committed in the US, rather than letting them "walk out" essentially scott free by deportation.

It might be "cheaper" just to deport but it doesn't exactly look very good.

Interestingly, most of what is described in that article - multiculturalism, diversity, dual nationality, support for ethnicity, celebration of cultural backgrounds - is how Canada approaches immigration and multiculturalism - a country that has successfully married two major cultural backgrounds and languages (although yes there are occasional internal squabbles), as well as has a racial profile that reflects the racial composition of the rest of the world - without the problems US has - or believes it has - with immigrants becoming part of the dominant culture.

Multiculturalism and diversity work and there are successful examples in the rest of the world. US has always described itself as a 'melting pot' and that is its approach to assimilation. It seems fearful of anything or anyone that looks different or sounds different or behaves different. Much of its approach to immigration - both legal and illegal - is strongly fear based and irrational. Canada prides itself on being a 'cultural mosaic' and feels stronger and blessed because of the many strengths brought to the country by its immigrant citizens.

A melting pot reduces everything within... into one and the same.

What we have is a "pot of stew" situation ..... quite a bit different.

Also Immigration of yesterday was primarily an influx of Europe. Immigration today is truly "diverse" with large number of people arriving who have never even lived in a first-world country.

Most uneducated and coming from cultures quite different from ours.

If they were arriving in small numbers the "melting pot" would do it's work but as we have seen, large and steady stream has enabled isolated communities to form.

Now it might be, an America with many cultures will do just fine, but if not, what do we do then?

Immigrants have forever been 'about to destroy America.' This is not new, it is an old theme, and the results continue to discredit those who espouse them. Much as there has been, throughout history, the ongoing theme of 'the next generation will destroy us.' Also with the results being the opposite.

I am no fan of illegal immigration, but in the long run, America will be fine. I for one choose to ignore the current 'brown scare' tactics.

When you claim "Immigrants have forever been 'about to destroy America.".. you suggest, we keep importing huge numbers of people and ... it has worked out just fine, the truth is this surge started in the late 60's and continues to explode.

The truth is the "great wave" of immigration came to a sudden end for a reason.

I would suggest if it had not, this country would not be recognizable today.

Our mass Immigration is wrong on many fronts, this importing of low-no skilled workers ensures the continued drain on America and the working class......and the, Importing of Educated persons from many third world countries has left a devastating hole there, the very people they need to help lift their country up.. are bailing out and coming here, ensuring the poverty and deplorable conditions back home.

Let me ask you this question; In your mind, is there a limit on how many immigrants we can successfully immigrate?

You know, if you're so against what I perceive to be as miscegenation in the USA, why are you importing your bride? Furthermore, if you aren't in agreement with how things are in the US today, I'm absolutely sure that we could find someone to take your place who would like to be a fine, upstanding American.

my wife has been here legally for a few years, has a green card, speaks english, accepts American culture enthusiastically while retaining hers, has a job, pays taxes, doesn't commit crime, etc. when i came home from china, she came with me.

i'm not against foreigners. just foreigners that don't respect and accept America the way she is, and don't comply with our legal system. can you argue with those principles?
