So I got my RFE in the mail on Friday - and what it is is that they want my husband's birth certficate translated by someone into English (it is in Spanish). How do we do this? Does it have to be a certified translator and do we have to submit any kind of form or anything with it? Is it going to cost me MORE money?!?!?!?!?

I want to get it done ASAP so any comments or suggestions would be grately appreciated! Thank you!

Anyone that understands both English and Spanish can do the translation. The translator need not be certified. The translation should include a statement saying that the translator is proficient in both English and Spanish and translated everything as is (google for specific text to use).

So can my husband translate it himself? He is proficient in both English & Spanish - let me know if that is ok or does it have to be an outside party?

Personally, I would recommend a neutral third party to translate your documents. Less of a question with the translation.

But I have seen posts here where people have done their own with no issues (with the appropriate clause as noted above)

I agree, it is better not to take chances. I also had to translate my birth certificate from spanish to english and I found this certified lady who does translations and she only charged me like $20. So is not too bad and its worth it just to be on the safe side.

I would not recommend translating your own official documents. You can translate emails or something informal you would use as evidence, but not birth certificate. I would definitely use a certified translator, this is too important to penny pinch. We translated everything in my wife's country, it was dirt cheap. Translation services in the US can be expensive. But there are places that don't charge too much. Look around. I heard somebody mention that a local university language department might be able to do that.

hey it is easy i did my own death certificate for my ex wife.

just find someone who can read spanish and write english

just tell him to type on the paper what he reads in spanish

and send that with ur signature with RFE
