I don't think anyone breaking traffic laws should be tazered. If they threaten the security of the police that's a different matter of course, but getting lippy doesn't deserve a short, sharp shock.

In this day and age where everyone could have a gun, I think the officers actions were justified. This isn't a country where a 72 year old woman possesing a handgun is outside the realm of possibilities. The woman was not being cooperative and intentionally disregarding the instructions the officer was giving her. She got in close enough to make a grab for the officers weopon which is a big no-no.

Sorry you've had a poor experience with the police AJ, thats NJ for you.

"I'm 72, and I am older than your mother. Don't speak to me that way."

In my head I'm thinking, "okay lady, what does that have to do with the way with me giving you a ticket."

It may be wrong to even use a tazor. But, I just thought that "i think this woman needs to know something about the law instead of age."

 @ not happening in Australia

it wouldn't, cops in oz are awesome. they are intelligent and thoughtful, nothing like american po-po.

In the case of Canadian police, there just wouldn't be any around to catch her in the first place.

I don't know how I feel about this. I don't get why in some states you have to SIGN speeding tickets? And, if you are refusing to sign it, so what? I've never had to sign a speeding ticket before in front of an officer, in Ontario or in New Jersey. If you don't pay it, a warrant is going to go out for your arrest any ways so why do they need you to sign it so they can have proof they gave it to you? The whole idea is silly.

People shouldn't have to get out of their vehicle for a stupid speeding ticket, unless it involves further suspicion like DUI.

As far as the lady, it's funny the officer was physically intimidated by her..at least, that's what it looked like. If he couldn't stop a 75 year old woman from getting back into her car, he needs to start going to the gym and law off the doughnuts.

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard

Signing the speeding ticket would be explicit to a n00b police officer. The court can order a summons for them to appear in court anyway. If the summons aren't obeyed, then the sheriff will just issue a warrant for an arrest. Simple as that. Therefore, signing or not signing a ticket doesn't really matter.

Concur. She made the confrontation happen. All she had to do was sign the ticket and go on her way.

Age has nothing to do with it. She should know better, being that old.

I like how the woman before the tape was released made it look like she was the "innocent", but right after it was released, refused to speak to the media.

Guess she didn't know it was taped.

I don't see a lot of people complaining she was doing 60 miles or so in a construction zone, guess road workers do need to go home all the time

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

I heard an interesting radio program from the UK, ostensibly about the affect the 'war on drugs' has had over the past 10 years or so in the US and one interesting conclusion (and this was from a US journalist) was that the war on drugs has had a terrible effect on policing. The suggestion is that if one spends all day simply doing very simple police work (stop, search pockets for drugs, arrest repeat) there is little time left for what is traditionally seen as proper in depth investigative police work. The result, a police force that has little to no experience in anything other than these rather mindless and pointless procedures and also a police force that ends up engaging in inappropriate behaviours.

I have no idea how widespread or true this is, but it was certainly interesting.

If you've seen that HBO show "The Wire" - that's basically the premise that's promoted there - that the cops don't get to do real police work because they're too busy trying to achieve politically mandated arrest quotas and a few high profile sweeps for the benefit of the cameras.

Its fiction, but its pretty effective at illustrating how different branches of local government interrelate and the effect that this has on local communities.

The guy who wrote 'The Wire' (a show I haven't seen) was the journalist - now fiction writer. He's an interesting guy. I am sure some of it is propaganda, but still interesting.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

the cop was an idiot and put his badge on the line....at 72, he could have killed her with a heart attack and been on you tube..

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).
