Has anyone been on an indoor ski slope?

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — The chair lifts, fans and snow guns are in place, which means that the 800-foot indoor ski slope, the only one in the country, is ready to be covered with manufactured snow.

The ski hill entertainment feature will officially be called the Xanadu Snow Park. The ski slope itself will be divided lengthwise into four separate runs of varying difficulty. Temperature will be kept at 28 degrees 24/7 and snow melt will be recycled to produce new snow each day.

As with a ski resort, there will be a ski shop and an après ski lounge. The idea is that visitors can rent equipment and try it out on-site before they buy.

...

No official pricing information has been released ... Rates will be set by the market, but will be “family friendly.”

I've been on one that used synthetic materials that let your board/skis slide down, but there was no snow.

Interesting, where?

It was in Los Angeles. They closed about 3 years after they opened. Nobody was willing to pay $50 to go down a astroturf hill.

When I lived in Japan There was a place called Big Air Fukuoka it was a ski & Snow board park indoors.

The Japanese are very industrial.

I think Japan probably has more indoor ski/snowboard facilities than any other country.

It was impressive and there were challenging enough runs to entertain advanced snowboarders.

I've seen the one in Dubai but I never went on it. I disagree that strapping sticks to the bottom of your shoes and then hurling yourself off of a steep slope should be called a sport. Suicidal madness, yes. Masochism in action, yes. Sport, no.

Skiing is a lot of fun!

Skiing is like heroin, from what I understand about heroin.

My first day skiing was the best day of skiing of my life. Every time since I've tried to have as good a time and failed. I still had a great time, mind you, but never quite as perfect as that first day.

According to addicts, the best time doing heroin is the first. Every time after that is an attempt to recapture that initial feeling. Of course it never happens and then you need it just to function.
