Hello every one!!! I know I am jumping a bit ahead here, but I just found out that the NVC will need original documents. Here's the problem, I misplaced our marriage paper (sad I know, I just filed a few weeks ago). I am really hoping it will pop up before we get the NOA2, but if not can we sent my husbands orignal copy (with translation and signed off by the american embassy - just like the copy I sent in of mine)?? Will this make a difference? Do you think they will question why my marriage paper isn't available (which I can happily tell them, I misplaced it  - like I do just about everything else)? Thanks for your answer in advance!! Have a great hump day!

I think you should just get another copy of your marriage certificate.

NVC accepts originals and certificate copies. And to get a certificate copy you guys have to go to the place that issued your first marriage certificate and request another copy of it. That's how most people do, I did because I didnt want to send my original.

If you send the paper you have and IF they do accept it, maybe you will still need to bring the original with you by the time of the interview, if they dont require the original at NVC stage they will for sure at the interview.

:)

Good luck

Hi and thanks for the response. Although let me clarify. When we got married, we both got original copies (hand written in Arabic, with pics of us on it, our witnesses signed off on them, etc.). We had mine translated and signed off by the US embasy in Cairo (which my husband is planning on doing the same with his copy). My husband's copy is the SAME as mine (except not an exact copy because it was hand written - I don't know...this is how they do it in Egypt) - it's considered an original.

My concern is that when I have to send it into the NVC (my husband's original, since I currently I can't find mine - I was told we would get the original back) will they question that it's not the same one that I sent in for the I-130 petition (obviously they will know it's not the same one since it's hand written and the certified translater probably be someone else, and the US embassy person certifying the document may be a different person as well). I just wondered if this would be a problem.

Hello

sure u can use your husband one as both are identical ...but make sure its translated and notarized frm the american embassy ..

and you SHOULD find your ..cz if it happen and NVC wasted it anywhere ..then u both have NO marriage certificates ..and to issue another one tht needs a court order (and no need to tell u how this is hard and takes time here )

go a head with your Husband one ..

Good Luck

Hummm, maybe someone from Egypt here in the forum would know better?

I can't tell you 100% sure, but I think it doesn't matter if it's different from what you sent to USCIS, specially because they accept copies and NVC wants the original which is the most important one. But I think it doesn't matter if it's different, as long as it is original. I also think it doesn't matter if it's a different certified translator, because that really can chance.

Your best option in my opinion, would be try to get the original from your husband, and have him get another copy. By the time you are on NVC phase just call them and ask what you should do about it.

Or maybe someone here from egypt knows what you should do more specifically. :)

this is a good suggestion. send in your husband's copy then get another certified copy.

NVC is also known to lose one or two papers.. you don't want to be stuck with an RFE for no marriage certificate

and wait a long time to get a new copy.

good luck!

Salaam....thanks for letting me know. I really will try to find mine, I know it's somewhere....I just filed a few weeks ago. It can't have gone to far. Anyhow, I think I will have Ahmed just have his copy translated and certified/noterized by the embassy. Also, do you know....will be need to have his birth paper translated?? Shukran gazeelan!!!

I don't think it's so easy to get another copy. Certified or not. Things aren't always so easy in Egypt. Anyhow, I'm really gonna try to find mine. I would lose my head if it wasn't attached to my body :bonk:
