Hey there,

i just wanted to see who out there from Australia is married to an american, particularly girls from aussie.

I want to read some more testimonials and see if they encountered any problems/hiccups along the way and why?

My story is: i met my hubby Dec 2006. I did a few trips back and forth to LA from Syd when we started dating, and towards the end of 2008 he proposed, and rather than me going back to Syd AGAIN, we decided to get married Feb 09 to start a green card process for me so i can work and live here.

Also, my husband is currently unemployed like a lot of people so i wanted to see if anyone else is in the same situation??

So far we submitted all our forms (I130, I131,, I765, I485, I864, I693, G352) on April 7th

Received our form receipts April 15th

Fingerprints May5th

Letter received May15th stating my husbands wage is too low

Currently in the process of getting his mum to be a joint sponsor and re-file the I864 (which means my EAD is delayed until AFTER i submit those new forms, grrrrr!!!)

Looking forward to reading more stories....

I am a US citizen married to a man from Australia, he arrived in Aug 08 for us to meet ( met online ) He was here about 6 weeks when he proposed & he was due to go back nov 08. We married before he was to go home.

We have had a smooth unbelievablely smooth ride so far. Everyone had been great, super kind, & we have had no delays. In fact we got our notice yesterday that our AOS interview is scheduled for 07/20/09! It's only been 75 days since we filed. EAD arrived May 09, 2009.

Very smooth process!

Much luck & happiness to you both

Whoa!! I just read my story! lol Except you are a few months ahead of me. I did trips back and forth, my last entry was on November 17 and I was due to go back febraury 17 however my visa didn't expire until May 17th (Today!) So I extended my plane ticket until May 17. However, in April we decided that I wasn't going home and got married instead! If we hadn't then we probably would not have seen each other for 2 years :-( So 23rd of April we got married! On the 30th of April I sent my papers off got my NOA's on May 11th and just yesterday (Saturday) received my biometrics appointment. Hopefully my EAD card won't be too far off because I am going crazy not being able to work!

Oh and at the time we filed my hubby was "technically" unemployed so his parents helped meet the I-864 criteria by filling out I-864a as we are living with them.

They sent our RFE & we went & had it done the next day, walk in Civil Surgeon, cost approximately 300.00, we were in & out in like 20 minutes, super easy very nice people! We went back 2 days later for the TB test to be read & it was done. Just wanted to give you the heads up so when you get the RFE you a) don't freak out, B) you can plan for the expense. I wouldn't send it before you get the RFE but if you have to make an appt with a CS in your area I thought it would be helpful if you had a heads up :o)

The only reason I did not send the I-693 was because my blood test results were not available so I ahd to wait for those before I saw the civil surgeon. Although I have already seen the CS and everything went fine. It only cost me $160 for the appointment and the TB test. I got the blood test done at a free clinic so I paid nothing for that and all of my vaccinations were up to date except that one cervical cancer one. I didn't get it though I had a doctor write a note stating I was allergic and was not a good candidate for the vaccination and did not have to get it. I went back this past Wednesday for the TB results and was given the envelope then. I am fulling expecting an RFE so I won't be stressed when it comes along as I will send the I-693 out that same day. But I am sure if someone else who hasn't sent the I-693 and isn't as prepared will be glad you posted that. I couldn't imagine getting something from the USCIS like an RFE that I wasn't expecting!!!!!!

wow your story is REALLY similar to mine! I was actually born in the UK but i grew up in brisbane and lived in sydney before moving out here.

My hubby is also unemployed at the moment and uscis JUST raised the poverty level, otherwise his unemployment benefits would've sufficed.

So his parents are now going to be my joint sponsor, and also fill out I864. We don't live with them so they can't fill out I864A.

Good luck with the rest of your immigration process! And yes i TOO am going crazy waiting for my EAD!

Yes being separated sucks totally! I have read that it takes just as long to get the K1 as it does to get the green card. If i was you i would bite the bullet, get married (in the US preferably) and start your process asap. You'd be surprised at how awesome a wedding you can pull together in a short time, we did it in 5 weeks, it was the best day of our lives! Nothing cheap or tacky either.

Best of luck!

She would be going about it illegally if she decided to come to America with the intent to stay. I am unsure if you came with the intention of getting married but I know when I arrived in November 08 I fully intended on returning to Australia. I then decided to extend my stay which meant changing my plane ticket and extending my insurance it was only after that, that we decided t get married so because I entered the States with the intentions of leaving it was ok for me to get married and stay however, if Astrid enters the U.S. on a non-immigrant visa and plans on not returning this will be considered visa fraud and she can be denied entry or get in a serious amount of trouble.

I am going TOTALLY crazy without being able to work but I think we have solved that problem!! My husband and I are going to be getting a 6 month old kitten and a 7 week old puppy all within the next week or two :thumbs:

No i definitely didn't enter with the intent to marry. We wanted to get married somewhere down the future, but that trip i did it was through Canada visiting relatives then i came to LA after. He proposed two weeks later and i had fully intended on returning to australia (i had a ticket booked back which i have now forfeited unfortunately), but we made a last minute decision based on what was best for our relationship. I consulted 2 immigration lawyers and they assured me that because we got married right at the end of my visitors stay it is less likely to look fraudulent.

I have read stories that being separated for long periods of time puts a strain on international marriages. In fact i know US immigration purposely does this as to "weed out" marriages that are fraudulent.

I think most of all, if your marriage is real, you know you will be ok. And hey a puppy AND a kitten will keep you busy :)

Hey guys,

Yeah I'm marrying my American guy *hopefully* in November. My flight is presently booked for Sept 12. I booked it (though I knew better) because there was a massive sale on tickets and I purchased in late Jan giving me around 8 months to get my visa and I really hope it works out. As you can see, I just had my petition approved and am waiting for P3 to arrive.

This process, whilst being uneventful, has been very stressful. We filed for I-129F on 19 Feb 2009 and as you can see from my signature, we waited 4 months for petition approval. We haven't seen each other in person since December 8th 2008. It sucks!! I am really thankful for the VJ graphs because they actually gave me an accurate time to expect my NOA2. The USCIS website tells me they're processing Nov 28 2008 at the moment!

My fiance is working as well as studying atm. He's an ex-marine who is getting his diesel mechanic qualification. Unlike is Australia, their troops don't leave with the qualifications they earnt whilst in service (which personally I think sucks). He finishes in September, around when I arrive, and then we hope to move to Iowa (his home state) where he gets a full time job *fingers crossed*.

My FH actually found this thread and asked me to check it because of the "low income" thing you mentioned. Luckily I have a website link: http://www.fiancee-visa.info/fiancee_visa_requirements.html that told him about what the income requirements are, so he checked that and is pretty sure he'll be fine.

I'm looking forward to getting this process moving along nice and fast. i've posted a topic asking other Aussie chicks to give me their "stats" to find out how long I should expect and it's looking like I should receive P3 2 weeks from my NOA2 email, and my interview, 1 month from my P3 being sent and P4 being received.

I will definitely keep you all posted on how my story goes but I really hope it's a smooth ride. I so very badly want to quit my job on the planned date. My work sucks and the people are ****.

Good luck to all of you and I hope you all have uneventful stories too!
