Hi Everyone,

Today I unfortunately have been laid off from my job. Earlier this week I had sent in my wifes I-864 AOS packet with all the employment verification letters and paystubs. Today I am laid off from my job and by next week I had planned to send my wifes DS-230 packet and now I dont know what to do. Should I tell NVC that I have been laid off or I should wait till I get a new job and then send in a new employment verification letter. Or I should send in the DS-230 packet and then when I get a new job I will send the employment verification letter to my wife so she can show at the embassy during her interview of my new job. If someone can tell me the best course of action because I just dont want this to effect my wife's case or a delay in the case. Thank you.

I am so sorry to hear about this :(

Can you line up someone as a co-sponsor? If so, do it --- this way you wouldn't have to wait.

Well yea I live with my father and he can co-sponsor me but since I did not even send in the DS-230 packet yet, I have time. Lets say if I get a new job what would be the best course of action and if I want to add a co-sponsor what would be the best way from here.

You have already sent in the I-864, I'd just leave it. Have your dad get all the things for co-sponsor and paperwork done so IF they require a co-sponsor you have that ready.

Sorry to hear about ur job loss.If u have already sent most cuurent 2008 IRS transcript along with last 2 or three, and it passed poverty line, they will not ask anything(most likely) about financials.but as April 2009 has passed they will definetly ask tax return of 2008 @ the time of interview ,if not already submitted and current employment letter too.U can add co-sponsor,then u will need his tax returns and employment letter.it will not be a problem then .I m sponsoring my mom cuz I m the petitioner,I m a housewife,I m not working, my husband is the co-sponsor,and we totally sponsoring my mom on co-sponsors income, and NVC has accepted our Affadavit of Support with out any problem, when I sent the I-846 ,2008 tax return was not available, but I got it and my mom will take it @ the time of interviewI,cuz NVC told me to do so.In my opinion U should not give any adverse information voluntarily,to NVC or Embassy until they ask U.Good luck

So lets say if I want to add a co-sponsor, do I send in that new I-864 packet right now or with the DS-230, or I should send it to my wife who can show it to them at the time of the interview. I will only add a co-sponsor if I dont find a job until my wifes interview date. However, lets say I find a job before I even get my wife's DS-230 packet ready, should I send in my new employment verification letter with the DS-230 packet or I should send it to my wife who can show it to them at her interview. Or I should not do anything until they ask for a co-sponsor or new letter of employment.

I'll just repeat myself. Leave it be. Have all the co-sponsorship papers ready IF they ask. Otherwise let sleeping dogs lie.
