Hi everybody,

Does anyone knows if it is possible to travel to US while interview preparing?

My problem :

- My American fiancée is pregnant and must delivery 12th of July.

- NVC told her this week that our case has been sended to US Ambassy at Paris (not received today yet).

- So, I think I should be able to send the packet 4 the last week of May, maybe before.

- The statistics on VJ tells about average time between NVC sent and interview : 58 days... So, does mean I gonna miss the birth of my child, because interview possible after the 12th of July :(

- Of course I am gonna ask to US ambassy to expedite my date of interview regarding the delivery.

- But if it's not possible to get the interview sooner before delivery, can I travel to US (I have a WVP passport) to be with my fiancée for the birth in julyand come back to France for my interview some days after the birth?

Did anyone already have this frustating experience?

Thank you in advance to share your experiences.

I am by no means an expert on this... but here are my thoughts...

1) Gather ALL the stuff you need in advance of getting packet 3 from the embassy. Call the Embassy when they get it to see if they will expedite the interview.

2) It is my understanding that a tourist visa will be canceled AFTER your interview and approval, so I see no reason why you should not be able to come to the US. Save two very important points... a) that you can get here and back for the interview and B) you obviously run the risk of being denied entry at the POE

There is always a risk of being turned back at the border, but by the time you travel, you should have an interview date for your visa. Bring the appointment letter with you (as well as proof that you intend to return home such as letter from employer, lease for house etc), and I think chances are they'll let you in, but there is a risk they won't.

Get a letter from her doctor to give the embassy with your request to expedite. There's no guarantee that they will expedite, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

Email and/or call the consulate/embassy now. They may be able to send out packet 3 based on the NOA2 and/or NVC case number prior to receiving the actual case.

Explain you situation. Sometimes they are nice and can pull in your interview date and expedite paperwork.

We have found dealing with the consulate and state department to be night and day compared to USCIS.

I don't know about Paris, but Auckland has been great with expediting our case. We told them about our long NOA2 and the story of my fiance not being allowed to visit me because CBP turned her back. They are quite helpful getting visas for legitimate people quickly. My fiance and I also lived together before filling for the K-1 and Auckland understands how hard the last 8 months have been being separated after years together.

People aren't heartless (at least not the State Department in VWP countries). They will hopefully help you out. Having a baby is a good reason to ask for help. It would be a shame for you not to be there.
