It's just 1 small step in the process, it is not even on the critical path for the next steps in the AOS process. I say, go when you want and when it worksbest for your schedule (as long as it is on or before the scheduled date). If the service center can accomodate you, great. 1 more thing checked off your list. You arent "cutting in line" or impacting anyone elses timeline.

If everyone tried to "walk in", the whole system would grind to a halt. That's why they have appointments, so that when you go to your appointment, you don't have to wait two hours while the "walk-ins" are served. The biometrics notices have a rescheduling option if the date they give you isn't convenient.

I think the system works fine even if people go earlier than their appointment dates. Because what is the probability of all of the early birds come in on the same day? None. This also means that more people can be served on the day the early bird would have had his/her appointment. This spot will then probably be taken by another early bird. I think USCIS offices would still be fine if everyone went after he/she got his letter but before the date. It would get so mixed up that it doesn't matter whether you appoint dates or not. Plus, almost all of us can't work I guess so it is not even the case that there are peak times (say after 5pm when work is over)...

I also went early and was in and out in 30 minutes. There were hardly any people there at all so what is the point of assigning appointment dates (or maybe they all already went on earlier dates). :P

Nonsense. Nothing's gonna "grind to any halt". Completely disagree.
