hello everyone, as we're just embarking on the whole CR1 process, we have some basic questions on the CR1 process:

1) how does USCIS and NVC know that we are choosing the CR1 route? (simply from the little box down at the bottom lefthand corner of the I-130 and a cover letter? or is there like a CR1-specific form that comes along later in the process?)

2) how does USCIS and NVC know what consular post abroad that my husband the beneficiary will interview at? (do any of the forms ask us to specify?)

3) after the I-130 is passed onto the NVC, the CR1 guide says I should receive OS-169, OS-230, and I-864. but then on the NVC flowchart, i don't see the OS-169 and OS-230. instead I see DS3032, AOS Bill, DS230, IV Bill and the I-864. i know what the I-864 is, but what are the other forms? will we be doing both the OS set and the DS set?

4) what do those forms from the NVC entail? (as in, might i be able to look at a copy of the OS forms, the DS forms, AOS Bill, and IV Bill, just to prepare ourselves? or are they so straightforward that there's nothing to prepare?)

5) are there any other document fees after the I-130 fee (besides the medical exam and biometric fee)?

6) and might i be so cheeky as to ask about how long we could expect the NVC part of the CR1 process to take? would it be much longer than waiting for the NOAs from USCIS? (or is it one of those things were it just depends on each case? *in the meantime, checking out timelines* )

thank you to everyone who is reading this and might be able to shed some light on this process! thank you, thank you!! :star::dance::star:

I think by just submitting the I130, you go the CR1 route because if you were to go the K3 route you would also submit the I129

By his address they know what country he will interview at and I believe you write it on one of the documents you submit.

the CR1 process has the I130, I864, DS230 and then other packets depending on the request of the embassy that the interview is at. All forms are on the internet

the fees are 355+70+400+the medical fees.

I would expect going through california with no problems around 6 months total.

hope i helped a little...good luck!

Go to the nvc website Travel.state.gov and go to forms you should see everything there. Also the Cr1 and Nr1 are for married people, if you get CR are NR depends on how long you have been married, Two years are less then Two years thats how they pick your visa type.

They know which consular based on the beneficiary country and which consular process the type of visa you are applying for. ( Because not all conslar process certain visas)

Ok Q:6 yes every case is differnt which you can see by time lines some people go by fast and some dont sorry i have no good answer for you on that.

1. When NVC receives an I-130 for spouse, they know to process it for a CR1 or IR1 visa path.

2. You tell them on the I-130 to which consular post the application will be made.

6. If you use the shortcuts efficiently, about four to six weeks. If not, maybe three or four months.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...
Understanding the big picture is priceless. Anonymous
