when do you plan to get married? your timeline doesn't add up.

We got married in Queens, and didn't have a social security at the time.

1) You need to go there and get a marriage license then you can come back 24hours later to get married,

2) the license is valid for 60 days so you can come back and do the marriage certificate anytime before the 60 days window.

Getting Married in New York City

The Marriage License, By Normal Rockwell

How To Get Your Wedding License

If you are getting married in New York City you can obtain your marriage license in any of the city clerk's borough offices. You do not need an appointment, but both bride and groom must appear together to get the license.

Some thing you need to know about obtaining your liscense:

* The license is valid throughout the state. For example, you can get your license in Manhattan and get married in Queens -- or in Albany for that matter.

* The license is prepared while you are in the clerks office, but there is a TWENTY FOUR HOUR WAITING PERIOD before you can marry. So be sure to include that timing in your plans if your are coming in from out of town to be wed. The license remains valid for 60 Days.

* The fee is $30.00????? call the number listed below to check for the exact fees , and only money orders are accepted. Make M.O. payable to City Clerk.

* You must have identification that prooves your age. Acceptable ID can include: birth certificate, baptismal certificate, passport, driver's license, green card, military identification.

* If divorced you must provide the month, day and year your marriage(s) ended and who the deffendant was. In the Manhattan clerks office it is "suggested" you bring the divorce papers with you; in other parts of New York it is mandatory.

* Blood tests and medical exams no longer required in NY.

You can obtain your license in the following clerks office. They are generally open between 9 am and 4 pm Monday through Friday, and some offices take a break for lunch at 11:30 until 1 pm. Please call first.

IN MANHATTAN: Manhattn Municipal Building, 1 Centre Street, (212) 669-2400.

IN QUEENS: Queens Borough Hall, 120-55 Queens Boulevard, Kew Gardens,(718) 286-2829.

IN THE BRONX: 1780 Grand Concourse,(718) 731-2277.

IN BROOKLYN: 210 Joralemon Street, (718) 802-3585.

IN STATEN ISLAND: Staten Island VBorough Hall, 10 Richmond Terrace, (718) 816-2290.

As I learnend now I don´t need a SSN that´s good news, so thanks again !

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

Although my husband (then-fiance) did already have an SSN when we married, I am certain you can get married without one. Many tourists get married here and the city government is trying hard to promote NYC as a wedding destination for both domestic and international travelers. If you have an SSN then you'll need to provide it on the forms, but if you don't have one, I am sure they won't prevent you from marrying.

Have a wonderful wedding!
