Ever experienced in emailing an important person accidentally?

I tried to contact a former Professor to get a recommendation letter for a biotechnology administration proposal. Instead of emailing him, I sent it to another professor that had the same last name. And, it turns out that this other professor is not an ordinary professor, a Chancellor Professor to that effect. Adding to the fact that he also is a person of interest in the field of Biotechnology Engineering.

Now, I felt compelled to sent an email of apology to him emphasizing that I am also embarrassed to have emailed the wrong person. He haven't replied back. I don't know what will happen. Maybe if I hear some of your stories, it'll help me cope with this terrible failure.

My friend once had something really bad happen... her boyfriend accidentally sent, to the entire department list (students and faculty) an email which contained information about a site that was being worked on (Anthropological). The problem is, he forgot to cut off the 3 pages of conversations she and him were having regarding their bedroom plans for the night at the bottom. It was quite detailed...

When I worked as an Administrative Assistant to some financial executives I email the President of Great Northern Financial because I kept getting these political emails from him that offended me. I didn't realize who he was and I just politely asked him to please stop sending me emails like this. I told my bosses and they freaked out and told me who it was. I got an email back from him saying no problem.
