In the receipt there is a control number. In my case, with a Western Union money order and as the guy at the post office told me, I call the number shown in the receipt and then follow the instructions to input the control number. I will have to do the same in a few days.

Your stub or copy or whatever part you keep should have a 1-800 phone number or website you can go to to check. It is preferable and easier to use a personal check, easier to track and if something gets lost you can cancel that check easily and issue a new one (you can do the same with a money order, but much more troublesome)

Do you have delivery confirmation the package was delivered? Always use certified mail or some sort of trackable delivery service

the person that works with our papers advice us not to use personal check becoz it may take time to cleared that check and it will cause of delayed.so he advice us to use money order.

there is no anectdotal evidence to suggest that a personal check causes any kind of delay (unless the check is not honored at by your bank)

YMMV

Concur - I used a personal check and it was cashed and the NOA1 within 2 days.

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

WARNING: Phrases in this post may sound meaner than they were intended to be. Read the Adjudicator's Field Manual from USCIS

Personal checks are processed electronically. No delay in choosing this option.

You don't need to track your M.O. All you will need is your case # EAC or WAC to login to the uscis.gov website to track your petition. Normally this number is stamped onto the back of your personal check so many of us are able to view it via our online banking system. However, some must wait for the hardcopy NOA1 (I-797) in the mail for the number. Be advised, this database is a courtesy and is often incorrect. ;)

congratulations on getting started and best of luck with the remainder of the process.
