Hey guys...finally received our NOAs for all 3 applications. and got touched 2 days after that...so I'm guessing they forwarded it to Nebraska already

Well I've had a result today! The company that I worked for in the UK have offices here in the US, and so I figured it wouldn't do any harm to touch base with them and submit my resume and reference. Well, I got a call from their HR department this morning - interview Monday!! W00t, W00t!!!!

I don't know exactly where yet - they have projects all over the US - but one thing's for sure: it'll mean relocation. But that's fine by me!!!!

Figured it was about time to start asking AOS questions...I can't do the court marriage thing until I get my social security number (which I applied for), but I want to have the paperwork all good to go by the time I have to send it off. So I don't exaaactly have AOS questions yet, but when I think of some, they'll be right here. Yes.

Hey girl, I bet you don't need a social security number. Just photo id is all I'm reading is required. That's my guess anyway 'cause we had a similar question of our people...what if he doesn't have SSN because he's a foreigner? She said they require you to tell your number if you have one, but if you don't have one, it's fine and the UK passport for photo id was enough.

To any of you fellow UK'ers that are working......how did you get that job?

I worked in the same job in London for 16 years and that seems to count for nothing here. It's hard not working when it's all you've done before.

I'm starting school in the Autumn, but I need something. I can't even get work at Walmart.

Do you guys think studying for this bleeding GED thing will help?

My English qualifications don't stand for poop over here. I have checkable references, the works.

I know the economy is bad, but I'm applying for jobs that are advertised!

I'd be stir crazy right now if it wasn't for my hubby and family telling me everything will be okay.

You're right: anything you did at home counts for diddly squat here. As a matter of interest, what did you do for 16 years at home?

I'm starting school in the Autumn, but I need something. I can't even get work at Walmart.

One word: VOLUNTEER. I teach a class of senior citizens the rudiments of computing at a centre near St Louis. It's obviously unpaid, but crucially, it gives you precious US work experience and checkable professional US references to put on your CV. Animal shelters are another option, and are always looking for volunteers.

Yes, but studying for an Associates degree (2 years) would be a better option. Did you graduate high school at home? If so, you don't need to bother with the GED, which is basically a qualification for high-school dropouts. Talk to your local community college about admission for a degree program. They will also help you with job placement.

I worked as an Administrator for Arsenal Football Club in the Box Office for 16 years. I loved it. Arsenal fan through and through here!

Just before I got here, I changed to a part-time position and worked as a Passenger Service Agent for American Airlines. One of my old bosses is looking into contacts for me but it's a matter of holding my breath.

I haven't thought about college yet. Although I'm glad you said that about the GED. Just flicked through one of the books! Huge!

I did finish school and did a couple of years at college, so I really won't bother with that then. Phew!

I'm going to one of them Workone places next week so I'll speak to my lady there and see what she can advise me. Apparently, there was a job at work one but as I don't have a degree, she couldn't put me forward for it. Duh! I think they just use me so they can hear me speak anyway. That's all they say...."come up and talk to us". Like I'm that bored. lol!

I may look into the volunteer thing though. Sounds like something I could do. Anything to get me out of the house that doesn't involve exercising sounds good right now.

Sarah just got her EAD in the mail on Wednesday! Woot!

I don't know what she's going to do...as she's 6 months pregnant, and i don't know that she'll want to look into anything serious until well after the baby's born...though she was thinking of going to a temp agency for some form of work for the next couple months to help save for Baby.

Not sure though..there's also a few work at home sites, that are actually legit, that she's thinking of trying. At least she can start looking if she wants. Now that she's got her SSN, and EAD, we can breathe a bit easier about the Green Card process!

The marriage license documents DEMAND (well, they say it's mandatory) that I have a social security number to get married in this state. I applied for mine last week so it's not meant to take more than four weeks to get back to me. I'm likely going to go into volunteer work in the meantime, as Knight starts working from next week on his summer internship thing. It looks like it's going to be me and Bean, who I've freed from his collar . He's busy tearing up some packaging padding he randomly found in the closet.
