By simplification, hope they mean reducing the current number of different forms from 925 down to a more reasonable twenty, and eleven thousand pages of tax law down to maybe one hundred. Then to hire somebody that has the ability to write in English in clear, brief, and precise terms. IRS is a mess and not even their best workers can keep up with the overly complicated system. And a taxpayer should be able to prepare his own taxes.

Tax rates control the number of times a buck is exchanged before the government gets it all back, and with any progressive rate system, they will get it all back.

I make a buck and pay 10% toward taxes for example, leaves me 90 cents to spend, next guy 81 cents, next guy 73 cents, etc, the government will get it all back. Higher rates slow down the economy, lower rates speed it up, but rates are not the problem. The problem is keeping that buck here so it can be taxed, and that is the major problem that needs to be addressed.

Why is it ok too tax some people disproportionately? Why should the government be in the business of making things "fair"?

Keep in mind overtaxing the rich has bad side effects.
