You had until May 13 to get married. Now that you're married, you should start your AOS. After May 13, you are "out of status", but you can still send in your AOS after this date. It's just best if you start the AOS process before your I-94 expires (May 13) if you can afford it.

Look in the "Guides" at the top of the page, find AOS and follow the instructions.

You should be able to open a bank account (or be added to an existing one) without a SSN. My bank (Suntrust, FWIW) told me clearly that there is no federal law requiring an account holder to have a SSN. Obviously if there's a state law to that effect then you're stuck but otherwise, it's entirely a matter of bank policy - so try a different one if you're turned away :)

Your bank may require you to fill out an IRS form, which the bank then hold on record but that should be the only extra step involved.

There should be no problem with this - my account is joint with my wife and now has my SSN on it but for several months, it didn't. There was no issue.

Basically it's like this: you're meant to marry and file AOS within 90 days of entry. But if you can't afford it right away, USCIS will turn a blind eye to the short 'out of status' period between the I-94 expiry date and the NOA1 date for the AOS, provided you married inside the ninety days. A short 'out of status' period of a few weeks will do you no harm.

Oh, okay. Well Carol and Bruno (post #2) has answered your question correctly. You can apply for the AOS anytime after you get married. The sooner the better, of course.

And, for what it's worth, my husband was able to add me to his account to make it joint without a problem. They just needed my passport and our marriage certificate and then used his SSN until I got my own.

File the I-495, 1-131 and I-765 as soon as you can. If something should happen to your hubby before you get the GC you will be deported. Sorry not nice to talk about but it does happen.

Total cost should be $2210 depending on you childs ages.

Get started by getting the I-693 done for each of you.

Try using Dr Arnold in Texas. He does it by fax and mail. LOT cheaper.
